My son asked for one of these kits for his birthday and he was not disappointed. He had a blast digging through it, and was excited to do the crystal growing and geodes as well. Very fun kit!

My newly 3-year-old son enjoyed digging! The product description suggests an older age; however, after I got it started, he was able to dig and complete the tasks without help. This activity lasted no more than 30 minutes. Easy mess to clean/hose down outside.

My daughter LOVED these. She and my husband had a blast. She's asking for more.

My 10 year old is obsessed with everything rocks and he loves all these kits this was a good one!

I gave this Japace Earth Science Kit to my niece after having gotten her a National Geographic dinosaur kit a few years ago. She had a blast with that, so I took a gamble on this since there were some similar components. She loved it. She really liked digging everything out and checking on her growing crystals.Everything is pretty simple and easy to set up and use. It can get a bit messy when digging the stone out, but you can just use the box to contain everything if you want simple and quick. If you don't, just be sure to set up an area to contain all the small chips, chunks, and dust that will fly off.

My daughter loves this kit, but her birthstone is an opal, and the opal is missing in the kit. So the one gem she wanted is missing. We checked all of the small pieces but no opal. We did find a tiny Erlenmeyer flask though.

Ok, my boys both loved this set. It does make a mess though, so put an old sheet down or have them go at it outside 😅 They found some really quality gemstone pieces and enjoyed the mix of getting to break stuff and having to carefully carve pieces out. Our elder daughter was keeping an eye on them while we were out on a date and reported they were so engaged with the set she was able to relax in the quiet... which is uncommon in our house!
