The device should and almost always does specifies power required for proper operation, especially if there is a jack to plug in an AC adapter. Power is measured in watts. Sometimes the required power is stated in watts, and sometimes the required power is implied by specifying required volts and amperes (current). Always, (volts) x (amperes) = (watts). Also, 1000 milliamps = 1 amp and 1000 milliwatts = 1 watt. Sometimes all three (volts, amperes, watts) are stated. I cannot say for certain, however They do not appear to have a memory. They hold their charge for a long period of time and I recharge them when I can't believe they can last as long as they do. I love them because they are at 1.5 volts until they stop. At that point they recharge and are as good as new.

All 4 slots work independently. You can charge 1,2,3 or 4 batteries at a time. It does not matter what slot to use.
