Q: the labels are so black, how do you write on it?

The labels are black and come with a white pen to write with. But not real happy with the quality of the white pen! Maybe you could find another white pen to write with. The labels are nice labels.

Q: When you turn the top to open does the pump "pop up" or does it stay at the same level and simply allow you to press down?

Stay at the same lavel . You need to turn left/right pump head according to the arrow on the pump head first. And then press down the pump.

Q: Is the top pump part completely black or is there white when the nozzle is unlocked?

Completely black. The white pen ink washes off the label when it get white. Looks cute in my bath.
