Q: My dog is a 50 lb Aussie. What size should I get?

My puggle is about 38 pounds and he got the small-medium size. The only reason I knew what size to get is because I bought the medium sized one at the petstore (they didn't have the half-sizes like I needed). On the package it shows you the size you need depending on your dog's girth. So you just measure your dog around the rib cage right behind his front legs. Your 50lb Aussie will probably need a Large one, but definitely measure your dog first.Here are a list of the sizes, according to girth (and usual breed - but some dogs in each breed are bigger or smaller, and I wouldn't necessarily go by that):Petite (size) - dogs measuring 12-16" around (Teacup breeds)Petite/Small - dogs measuring 14-18" around (Tweener size breeds)Small - dogs measuring 15-20" around (Jack Russells, Shelties)Small/Medium - dogs measuring 19-25" around (Tweener size)Medium - dogs measuring 20-28" around (Border Collies, Spaniels)Medium-Large - dogs measuring 25-35" around (Tweener size)Large - dogs measuring 26-36" (Labs, Goldens, German Shepherds, Rotties)XLarge - dogs measuring 34-46" (Giant breed & Oversized dogs)Hope this helps!

I bought seatbelt covers and wrapped around the bottom girth strap. This fix held for several years. My needle skills leave much to be desired, but as the stitches were away from my dog’s ‘legpits’, the seam didn’t rub.

My 8 month old 9.5 lb pup was in between twp sizes (petite/small and small) - I ordered the larger (small) size as jackets of this size fit and i thinks she'll still grow a bit. This was the wrong choice and the harness drooped too low on her chest, even on the smallest adjustment, tangling her in the leash too often. I returned from our 1st walk and just set up the return and re-ordered the petite/small and hopeful that this work. The quality and function seem excellent!
