Q: Is it able to use regular lighter fluid?

Yes, it works quite well on standard lighter fluid, and there is a pad on the bottom fill plug that you can place spare flints under. The container holds extra fluid and there are o-rings to keep the plugs from leaking.

Q: Does it use standard kerosene?

I use Ronsonol or Zippo fuel. In WWII they used what was available, including kerosene and even petrol/gasoline. I recommend standard lighter fluid though, burns cleaner and smells/tastes better when lit.

Q: How long does the fuel last in storage?

In the tank or lighter? I have kept the lighter fueled and the tank stayed full for months. The lighter just lit and and hasn't been used in a month since my older son came to visit. The cotton on the bottom is dry but not drawn up and the was wet enough to light. I just smoke pipes now.
