Incredible resource
I work as a Teaching and Learning Assistant in KS" and I am always looking for resources. This book is amazing and I would highly recommend it. .When I work with children i note that "word poverty" is a massive barrier to learning. When a child is asked to do a comprehension and they are faced with a page, where they do not understand a considerable number of the words, then they will not be able to do it. If a child is reading a book and they do not understand the words then the comprehension and enjoyment suddenly disappears. There is good practical advice and strategies. The book is easy to access and has inspired me. There are also resources on line with words of the day and authors favourite words which I use both in the class room and on the corridor. These not only have the word but the word class, pronunciation, definition and a sentence where the word is used. The teachers I work with have commented on the positive benefits of the book. I am hoping to inspire all the children to become vocab ninjas.

Fabulous book, highly recommended!
An excellent resource for supporting the teaching of vocabulary in the classroom for all year groups in school. The Ninja concept is great & the children love it. There are loads of practical ideas for use in the classroom both in the book and on the website and it literally is where you can buy the book one day and use it the next day with your class. We also had CPD training with Andrew and now use the strategies across our primary school from EYFS to Y6. We also bought the comprehension books but school closure has scuppered that for the moment, but we are using and setting the Word of the Day activities on our website. These are emailed out automatically - so easy!

Great activities to do with class!!
Really nice book- I love that it contained photocopiable activities for my class to complete that really secured their vocabulary knowledge. Also, it contained great vocabulary lists for topic and science subjects- with subject specific vocab and also descriptive vocabulary to improve cross curricular writing!I also use the ninja website a lot, as they have great maths and spag prep for SATS, which is great for closing last minute gaps!

This is a premier resource for anyone who is looking to expand the vocabulary of their pupils.
This is a premier resource for anyone who is looking to expand the vocabulary of their pupils. More than ever, vocabulary - in all of its depth and breadth - is essential to pupils as they grow and encounter the world around them. This book is thoroughly centred around ensuring that pupils get the most out of our teaching, developing ways to combat “vocabulary poverty” which has such an intrinsic and detrimental impact on our pupils. With easy, simple and incredibly effective tips and resources this book allows us to more readily prepare ourselves to enrich the experiences our pupils will have. There has been a great deal of love that has gone into this book and it’s unashamedly and rightfully proud to provide our young people with the best opportunities through the best teaching, regardless of circumstance. Can’t recommend highly enough!

My pupils love this.
I initially discovered this book being shared around twitter. As a newly qualified teacher, I was looking for CPD reading surrounding literacy and thought this looked promising. It's great! It gave me a greater understanding of the processes involved in understanding and teaching vocabulary (I teach 2nd level / KS2 but think it could apply across the board). We introduced "word of the week" and used the template from the book. Pupils were really engaged, learning about the word in detail and then trying to use or spot the word across the week. We created a display together, using the Ninja characters from the book. Its a great gimmick that, alongside the certificates from the website, hooked in and engaged pupils who were initially reluctant. I've also tried a few of the comprehension resources and think they are fab. As soon as the comprehension texts are available digitally I will be purchasing. 🌟

A plethora of brilliant, practical ideas for teaching vocabulary!
A limited vocabulary can have a profound impact on a child's understanding, their progress and enjoyment of learning. What the Vocabulary Ninja does in this book is suggest that spending from as little as 5 to 15 minutes daily could make a difference to the children in your class.I love the way the book is organised part 1 is the theory and background, words are so powerful and the Vocabulary Ninja shares display ideas for your classroom . Part 2 is the Vocabulary Ninja Teaching Toolkit - a range of ideas that I can't wait to use. Two of my favourites are looking at the etymology of words and having a word of the day with examples given. Looking at etymology in the last term helped my class to remember subject specific words e.g. Isosceles comes from Greek isos = equal and skelos = legs. Part 3 has additional resources including links to websites so that you too can become a Vocabulary Ninja! An excellent resource for teaching vocabulary - thank you!

Fantastic resource for embedding vocabulary!
This is a great classroom resource to support the teaching and embedding of good quality vocabulary! This book has a number of excellent ideas for the teaching of vocabulary. My class have absolutely loved the scintillating synonyms and the adventurous alternatives, they have really embraced this exciting new way of extending their vocabulary. I have found the ideas in this book capture the children's imagination and the collecting of interesting words means that they are going into the long term memory. The staff in my school have also found the book to be inspiring and has given a new lease of life to the teaching of vocabulary! Just what every school needs. We have now bought all the comprehension books for each year group, which we are also loving! Well done Vocabulary Ninja!

Superb book!
What a superb book; well structured and informative with ideas and organisers to assist planning. My year 2s in King’s College, British School of Murcia love the idea and can’t wait for further, richer vocabulary to use.
