Gloucester and Rockport (MA) (Images of America)

Gloucester and Rockport photo history
This series of books features photos collected from various local sources including historical societies, chambers of commerce, churches, schools and postcards. The Gloucester and Rockport (MA) (Images of America) provides the same slice of life photos, and provides glimpses of a not too distant past. My grandfather was born and raised in Rockport, and my mother in Gloucester, and my recently released novel, The Marvelous Journals of Miss Virginia Pettingill is about a precos girl's seventh grade year in Gloucester. Consequently, I have a few quibbles about mislabeling of some of the photos. Often, these mistakes are found on images from postcards, where the captions on the reverse of the card were wrong, and author John Hardy Wright just repeated those errors. But those mistakes are minor compared with the massive undertaking of distilling almost 400 years of history into 128 pages. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves Cape Ann.
