He grew up around cowboys, cowgirls and exciting stories of Wild West adventures. His mom, Martha, taught second grade. His dad, Bob, was a geologist. When he was eight years old, he told his Mom that he loved reading books and wanted to be a book writer. She suggested he go right ahead and do just that. Fifty years later, after time spent wildcatting in the Texas oil fields, directing at MGM Studios in Los Angeles and producing at Abbey Road Studios in London, he finally got around to it.
