Step-by-Step Installation for mid-2010 Macbook Pro, 2.4GHz. Performance is wonderful!
Couldn't expect anything more from this product. Noticeable difference in performance (I'm using a mid-2010, 2.4GHz Macbook Pro 13"), especially when running multiple programs. I can run Word, Powerpoint, Garageband, Safari, and iTunes simultaneously without fearing the dreaded "wheel of death." You'll see the biggest difference if you run a lot of programs at once with 4gb memory (which is a pretty standard "base level" for Macs). Installation is easy; I'll summarize below what I did for my macbook pro. I really recommend getting a cheap tool set (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009MKGRQA/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_1 worked perfectly for me, and it was only $9), but if you don't, make sure you have the right tools with you!You need a size 0 or size 00 (size 00 worked a little better for me, but don't go any smaller, or you'll warp the screws) Phillips screwdriver, as well as a stiff, thin tool to help pry open the RAM slots (DO NOT use a metal tool to remove the RAM, any electrical discharge can ruin your computer's battery). The 'stiff thin tool' isn't required, but it helps a lot if you have big fingers like me!Turn OFF your computer completely, and set it on a flat surface upside down (preferably a non-conductive surface, like a wood table, just to be safe). Using a type 0 or type 00 phillips screwdriver, remove all the screws (10 total) and keep them in order. I stuck a large piece of tape upside down and stuck the screws on it to keep them in order. There should be 3 'large' and 7 very small screws - don't lose these, they fall out very easily!Once the screws are out, simply lift the cover off (it should come off very easily, no force is ever applied). Locate the RAM in your computer's guts - usually a small, rectangular region either green or blue (my initial RAM was blue, but the replacement 2x4gb RAM was green. Sometimes you'll even find red colors; it doesn't matter).**if you want to clean your computer here, it'll probably be very dusty underneath the 'hood.' Carefully wipe off with a dry, anti-static cloth...do NOT get a towel wet and wipe your computer down!**There will be two small tabs on the outside of the RAM. Press these OUTWARD and the RAM should spring up at an angle. Carefully remove the first RAM chip (there are two, one on top of the other), and put it in a safe place. Repeat to remove the second RAM chip.Take the replacement RAM chip (it doesn't matter what one first) and insert it at an angle, gold trim side first. Orient the chip so the sticker is facing down. When you have gently pressed the chip into the bottom RAM slot, press down until you hear a faint click or it is secure. Repeat with the second RAM chip, but install it in the top slot.At this point, I find it helps to turn the computer on its side and turn it on, without putting the cover back on. If it boots up as normal, you've done the job correctly! Wait for it to boot up and check to make sure the computer recognizes both chips (go to the Apple symbol in upper-left hand corner, click "About this Mac" and "More Info" which will open up system information. Then click the 4th tab up top labeled "Memory." It will tell you which chips are installed in your computer)If the computer makes a sound like breaking glass upon booting up, it doesn't recognize the new RAM. Check to make sure it's compatible with your system, and try re-installing and possibly cleaning out (carefully, without blowing dust into the slots) the RAM slots.Hope this helps! It takes about 30 min. your first time, but you get faster if you do it again. I'll answer any questions if you comment on this review. Thanks!

Great memory from a trustworthy company
Great memory! I bought this memory to install in my late 2009 white macbook and so far its been working wonders:) My awesome mac reads all 8 GB of memory and uses it all without any problems. I am glad I spent the $65.00 on this, it was wort every penny.UPDATE**So its been almost 6 months, I wanted to keep you guys updated to let you know how its still working. So 6 months later this memory still works great, I have never had a problem with the memory upgrade and overall my old late 2009 white MacBook is able to have many tabs open without signs of slowing down. Keep in mind this Mac does use the CORE2DUO processor not the CORE i5 OR i7 PROCESSORS so in other words its not going to be as fast as my mid 2012 MacBook pro. I won't be able to edit 4K videos or play triple A games but I will have the ability to keep more tabs and apps open and just do more without having to wait for something to reload. I just bought this 8GB RAM kit to help my white MacBook keep up with the modern operation systems. The processor is up to the task but the very limiting 2GB of RAM it came installed with was holding it back drastically. It may have been enough for 2008 and 2009 but in todays world 2 GIGs of RAM is NOTHING. If I would of kept the 2GB RAM in my white MacBook there would be no way it would be able to run the OS while allowing me to use my apps without it being VERY SLOW AND LAGGY. This RAM helps my Mac prolong its life and overall usability. Keep in mind tablets and phones now come standard with 2GB of RAM, my iPad mini 4 has 2GB of RAM. Just to use a modern operating system (Windows and Mac OS) it needs at least 2GB of RAM, thats just enough to load the OS and use it comfortably and smoothly without any lag but if you plan on doing ANYTHING ELSE (like browse the web, watch youtube, netflix, play a game or app, use iTunes, etc.) you will see your system run very slow and overall become unusable. I think if you want to use a computer like how its meant to be used you should at the very least have 4GB of RAM but if you can install more RAM definitely do it, installing more will only help your system. I am keeping this product at 5 stars because its a great product, its still doing what I need and want it to do without giving me any problems. If you are debating on upgrading the RAM in your older white MacBooks Id say go for it. The CORE2DUO processors are still powerful enough to do any basic task like watching online videos, video chat and play some non demanding games. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask(: Ill be happy to help!!

Compatible with my old MacBook Pro
Perfectly comparable with a mid 2010 MacBook Pro 15”. Fairly easy to install but I had to use slightly more force to fit the second one it the slot. I was not sure that it would be worth it for such an old laptop but the improvement in performance when running multiple tasks has convinced me it was money well spent.

Does as expected
I have a 10 year old MacBook Pro that I’ve recently started using again for some research - mostly web browsing and word processing but also - critically - virtual machines. The stock 2GB (20% of which reserved for graphics) was just not cutting it.Thankfully these old MBPs are straightforward to upgrade. I checked the compatibility on Crucial’s website and ordered the part with Amazon. The upgrade is easy for anybody who can use a screwdriver and follow instructions, but this is going to vary depending on your computer. It is usually straightforward on most computers, but every now and again you’ll get a particularly awkward model. It would be worth checking the RAM upgrade procedure for your machine before buying. The RAM has been installed for about a week now and has been working great. It’s good practice to check the memory after install, but to be honest a bad module usually gives itself away pretty quickly. In terms of compatibility, reliability, and price, I don’t hesitate to buy Crucial memory.
