The Sicilian Sveshnikov (Grandmaster Repertoire) Paperback – October 7, 2014

Quality chess always put out the best in book value for the club player. This is no exception. The in-depth analysis of the Sicilian Sveshnikov in this book is sufficient for any person interested in playing this opening. All the lines I would ever need are in hear and the reasons for playing positions is or moves is explained in depth. I've been one who has liked the Najdorf for my repitorie and want something for a change of pace. For me this opening is quite complicated because of all the crazy movement of the pieces. For example in one line its mandatory for (I believe when q goes to h5) the King to move to the center of the board entangled between knights and then scramble over to the opposite corner after the white pieces have sacrificed. Very unusual but if you don't know that and are playing this opening you would get beat or at least be a major piece down. A fun opening and if your black you'll want this book. The author will convince you that you are better with black in all lines. Highly recommended for the black piece player who wants to learn and plays the Sveshnikov

A very nice book written by a strong Grandmaster, but as always the reader should do their own analysis: Chapter 34 line C422 21.Nd5 Nh4 a long exciting line is given but neglects 26.Ne7 which is a tough move for Black to deal with, and is in my humble opinion (I am only a weak cr IM) the true main line. The book is written from an optimistic Black viewpoint and is filled with ideas and TN's. A great investment for either Black or White. Kotronias' analysis and insights are as usual superb and penetrating. A must buy for Sveshnikov Sicilian fanatics!

My initial interest in the Sveshnikov Sicilian came from the fact that despite Black's famous compromised pawn structure there always seems to be enough resources in Black's game to hold things together against my computer at the 2900 level. The repertoire presented by Kotronias is very detailed and provides the reader with more than the information necessary to play the Sveshnikov effectively against anyone or anything. I am very pleased with this book.

This book is outstanding coverage of the Sveshnikov variation of the Sicilian defense.
