Necessary!
Edit 1: The included sheet on the fundamentals of singing is the most concise and clearly written instruction on proper technique. I love that it clears up that "sing from the diaphragm" adage that never felt right to me. Also, seriously keep that larynx depressed as often as possible! I struggle with it. It's a true muscular exercise. Over time the developed muscle tone will effortlessly hold the proper positioning. This may possibly be worth the cost of the VAM, if you, like me, don't like exercise, and needed a piece of paper to insist it is necessary. The warm up and cool down exercises are also good, and simple, and short. They make it possible for anyone to quickly prepare their voice for performance. Edit 2: The website specifically states that it is not intended to be worn strapped to one's head, as you are not able to control dynamics. I agree, but as someone struggling with too much volume fluctuation, I have found the constant volume level to be helpful in staying quieter End of edits. This thing is great. Not sure why it has strap loops, maybe to hang it around your neck when not in use. Works ok as a weird apparatus strapped to the face. I'm trying to break a lifetime of belting by learning to sing softer. This is really handy when singing along to the radio and doing chores!

it is best investment you can do to monitor your singing performace ...
This is an inexpensive tool that will replace heavy monitors or headphone setup in the band rehearsal. However, if you need to play guitar and keep the mic on the stand it will make a bit tricky to stay in the same stance all the ime to use VAM. Also it is not suitable if you use same mic for harmonica and for the singing. Other than that, it is best investment you can do to monitor your singing performace in noisy environment and that for the small fraction of investment you would require otherwise.

Does exactly what its supposed to do.
While it doesn't blast your own voice into your ear it's the same as using your hand to cup your ear to your mouth or maybe a tad louder. This is great for singers who can't use their hands because their occupied playing an instrument. You're not going to get IEM volumes with this though. Good for rehearsal but I wouldn't ever use it live because it just looks plain odd on the stage. The first time I brought it to rehearsal our bassist thought it was some type of spit guard. lol.

It simply helps you to hear your own voice when singing. It improves your accuracy of pitch.
Now, at age 75 I use it to sing in a very small Church choir. Pianist/ organist very loud. I just hold it to my right ear, as my sheet music & microphone are on stands. It works perfectly to keep me on pitch, hearing my own voice, as my neighbor tends to go flat. I carry it in a water bottle carrier. LOL if I stand in the front row, the very elderly members follow me to my car wondering what it is? I have actually owned it for years to use at home for practice, along with Hearphones another of this type device. Audiologist says I don’t need hearing aides. Jeanne

Works and very helpfull
Yes, it really works. Looks like a sex toy but it beats the hell out of anything else of its kind. After getting used to it, I found it very helpful.
