it feels balanced in the hand and doesn't weigh too much for the size. The retracting mechanism is pretty strong and would be appropriate for dogs over say 30 pounds. My dog is 15 pounds and has to pull harder than he's used to to get some length out of it he can. Not sure that I like how that may affect his neck. The ad could have given far more detail about this aspect. May look into returning it. Otherwise it seems like a good quality leash.There is one thing I would suggest they add to the tape that I loved on our old leash. About 18" from the end add something to stop the leash from fully retracting. It helps when attaching the leash to the collar because you don't have to hold up the heavy handle of the leash while trying to attach it to the collar and when walking the dog he wouldn't have to always have the tension of the leash pulling up on his neck.

I have a very small...3.5 pound puppy, all the other leashes I've tried have a tremendous amount of tension for that size dog. I was so pleased to finally find a leash that will let him walk without all the added pressure of the leash. He likes it better as well and now enjoys going for his walks.
