Assenmacher Specialty Tools 6500-17 1/2" Drive Allen 17mm Socket

I bought this to torque the 16mm axle bolt on my B5.5 VW Passat. The torque spec is only 140ft-lb, but then there's another 180 degrees turn, for which I knew I would need a very strong tool, and this did the job without failure. I was actually more concerned about breaking my 1/2in breaker bar. Totally worth the money as I suspect I would have shattered other cheaper tools. If you're looking to do the VW drain/fill plugs, this may be overkill, but definitely the right tool for the axle bolt.

As others have said this is the perfect tool for VW R32 outer axle bolts. I suspect it will handle the transmission drain plugs as well. Get this socket and don’t worry about “trying to make something work”

I needed a 17mm hex socket to undo the check and drain bolts on my car's manual transmission and this tool worked great. I choose the 1/2" drive because it looked like the bolts hadn't been removed in a long time and used a 1/2" drive breaker bar to remove them. This tool held up perfectly and looks to be very well built and solid.

Works great on upper retaining cap for rear struts on CAT 793 haul trucks (only reason I bought it for).

In the description it says it will fit my car, a 2000 Passat wagon with a 5 speed manual transmission,However the correct size for this on my car was a 14 mm and my replacement axle also has a 14 mm allen. I like the tool itself, it seems well made and durable not a 2 piece style that seems like isn't made as well. It may fit your car, just didn't fit mine.

I try and buy only good tools- who has time for bad tools in their life? Snap On, Mac and Craftsman mostly.This is high quality tool and fits right in with the rest of my tools- unfortunately I've had to use it a lot on my very leaky transmission and I'm very happy with it.
