ABSOLUTE is the first ever career-spanning collection of words and music by Scritti Politti - including two new and exclusive tracks. This collection includes: - Debut single, 'Skank Bloc Bolonga' - Singles from 1982 album Songs to Remember (UK chart position #12) - 'The Sweetest Girl' (later covered by Madness), featuring Robert Wyatt, on piano. 'Asylums in Jerusalem' and 'Jacques Derrida' - Five singles from the bands most successful album Cupid & Psyche 85 (UK chart position #5), produced by legendary producer Arif Mardin: 'Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha)' (UK #10), 'Absolute' (UK #17), 'Hypnotise', 'The Word Girl' (UK #6) and 'Perfect Way' (US #11). - Two tracks taken from their third album, Provision (UK #8) - 'Oh Patti (Don't feel sorry for loverboy)' featuring a trumpet solo from jazz genius Miles Davis (who himself covered Scritti's 'Perfect Way' at the Montreux Jazz Festival, July 1988), plus 'Boom! There She Was' featuring legendary musician Roger Troutman. - Top 20 single 'She's a Woman' a cover of the Beatles track, featuring guest vocals from Shabba Ranks - Four songs from 1999's universally acclaimed album Anomie and Bonhomie, 'Tinseltown to the Boogiedown' (featured guests Mos Def and Jimhal), 'Umm', 'Die Alone' and 'Brushed with Oil', 'Dusted with Powder'. - Two new and exclusive tracks 'A Day Late and a Dollar Short' and 'A Place We Both Belong' - the first to be released/co-written with long-time collaborator David Gamson since Anomie and Bonhomie.

A very good compilation
I've always had a soft spot for Scritti Politti. Cupid & Psyche 85 and Provision are two of the best-produced albums of the entire '80s. David Gamson is a genius, and his partnership with Green yielded some of the most perfect pop ever. However, for this collection I would have dropped "Asylums in Jerusalem" and "Jacques Derrida", and replaced them with "I Don't Know Why I Love You" and a 12-inch mashup of Cupid & Psyche's singles that was released as "MasterMix". Or maybe even include their collaboration with Chaka Khan, "Love of a Lifetime". That said, the track "A Day Late and a Dollar Short" from some 2007 sessions is as good as anything they've ever done. What a shame they didn't record enough songs for a new album!

The Perfect Way
The Perfect WaybyRob JonesScritti Politti-Absolute (Album)Absolute unites the core highlights of the career of Welsh wizard, Green Gartside. In the late 1970’s Green forged a pensive post punk origin and as a new decade arrived he morphed in to a successful and soulful pop star. The fame game is seemingly not for Green and he has stepped away from the limelight making ephemeral but always emphatic returns to action. An epic night at The Hay Festival in 2006 was a triumph-as is Absolute! Songs to Remember that are pure genius

Here at last - plus 2 new tracks
As a lifelong Scritti Politti fan I've been waiting for this collection to be released and here it is. Almost a full career retrospective - a few highlights missing - but all of the commercial highlights are here.Starting with the singles from Cupid & Psyche 85, the nice thing is that they are presented as the single versions which is great as I know all Scritti fans know the album versions backwards!Provision's singles are up next although First Boy In This Town is not here for some reason which is a bit of a shame as it's one of my personal favourites. Then we are served up several tracks from 1999's Anomie and Bonhomie, two of which were never singles (Die Alone and Brushed With Oil) but still sound great.Next up are the early singles from Songs to Remember followed by the duet with Shabba Ranks (She's A Woman) and finally the two new tracks. Day Late & A Dollar Short is very current but also at the same time very reminiscent of a Cupid & Psyche era Scritti track. A Place We Both Belong is more mellow but still a welcome addition.Overall the album demonstrates the versatility of Green Gartside and remind us of what an under appreciated genius he is/was.My one criticism is a few gems were omitted: First Boy In This Town, Take Me In Your Arms And Love Me and I Don't Know Why I Love You.Buy the album and search for the other tracks!

Frankly speaking with albums like Provisions and especially Cupid that itself is even more ...
Frankly speaking with albums like Provisions and especially Cupid that itself is even more than a "Best of", so it's difficult to make a choice.... So they dropped some great songs of the 2 albums to include some others to have a more comprehensive view of the group ok, very politically correct... but where is "A little knowledge"...???

Fantastic sounding collection of 'perfect pop!'
Bought to replace an older copy that got damaged somehow this is a fantastic collection of Scritti Politti's best songs and is excellently mastered - the title track sounds as good as I remember the original 12'' single being back in the Summer of 1984. The singles from Cupid & Psyche '85 are my favourites but also notable are Oh Patti (Don't Feel Sorry For Loverboy) from the follow up Provision, The Sweetest Girl and Asylums In Jerusalem from their debut album Songs To Remember, Brushed With Oil, Dusted With Power from the hip-hop influenced Anomie & Bonhomie (a lush ballad) and two excellent new tracks, A Day Late And A Dollar Short being the best of these. With Scritti Politti on the comeback trail with (rare!) live shows and the re-release of Cupid & Psyche '85, Provision and Anomie & Bonhomie imminent now's a good time to reassess their small (but perfectly formed) body of work.
