This bad boy is pretty slick
This bad boy is pretty slick!I'd purchased a Scheels Walleye Series rod with Pflueger Supreme MGX which is a phenomenal set up.But to carry the 7ft rod while on my bicycle or trekking the banks of the Upper Mississippi River I knew I wanted something more compact.I came upon this and could not be happier I did so.Breaks down, fitting perfectly into my fishing bag.Between classes, after school or work I can head down to the river and be fishing within minutes. It does take a little time to get the casting down but can be dialed in in no time. With a little weight on the end of your line you can cast solid distances no problem. This set up is a bit heavier than the other set up mentioned above. But with how well it compacts I will take that all day.I believe it's due to the reel more than anything. I actually received it pre-strung, which was a grand surprise. One thing that's good and bad is the handle. It doesn't stay firmly in one place, it moves on the swivel. Great for stowing but can be irritating while casting or reeling. The bail will close sometimes when trying to cast. But other than that i like it so far. Does seem to be made sturdy and well thought out.I feel like buying stock in this company haha. Not many know about these outstanding products but every single person I've shown and told about it soon becomes interested. This is great for carrying while bicycling, backpacking, trekking the banks, canoeing, or just to have in your vehicle.Once I'm no longer a broke college student I will definitely be looking to pick up another!

Great and portable fishing packrod
Absolutely one of the best fishing rods you will own. It is light and durable yet strong enough to handle most fishing situations. I have both a 7 foot fishing rod and the Emmrod Combo 6 spinning pole and the Emmrod is hands down a beast. Not only can you bring it along in most fishing situations but you lose absolutely nothing in terms of quality and performance. I'm relatively new to the sport of fishing but I could not be happier to have been able to find such a quality rod. The handle is functional and the spinning reel is of good quality. While there are some slight issues in terms of the line getting tangled in the coils, it is a quick and easy fix. Overall I was highly pleased to have purchased the Emmrod Packrod. Would strongly recommend it for anyone looking to do some recreational fishing.

a good hook set is nearly impossible
As you might imagine, casting is a challenge with a rod this short. You can certainly improve as you practice, but you'll never reach the distances you can get with a traditional rod. Also, a good hook set is nearly impossible. You don't get the torque and leverage you need to really yank the hook into place. On the up side, it's very portable and works flawlessly once you get the fish hooked. I am thinking of making this my "crabbing rod" and using it to snare crabs rather than hook fish. Should work great for that as casting and hook sets aren't necessary.

The rod really is great for kayak fishing I fish out of a relatively unstable 20.5" beam hard chine Greenland kayak which is pretty tippy with this short rod I can real in a fish without worrying about flipping overThe only negatives are the reel really isn't that great the drag is not smooth at all I ended up buying a Penn fierce reel which works well also the line accasionally gets tangled in the coils but its not that bad

Does not "Measure Up" in the casting department
I originally bought this with the idea of a portable backpacking rod. Which it is great for. It is very easy to take apart and put back together quickly and the reel also works very well. But for long distance casting on a lake... it will only cast maybe about half as far as standard length fishing pole.

Sometimes its the only thing and sometimes its the best thing.
Great, quality solution to an age old problem. This thing fits anywhere and is made out of strong, metal components. Strap it to a backpack, throw it into the trunk, store it on a shelf. The size makes this a no brainer. You never have to worry about it breaking tips or hanging, storing it the right way. When you are trying to get to that certain spot, you can scramble across a rock face while others look like they are performing a puppet show. Because of all of this, you put yourself in more opportunities to do what you want to do with it. I love the simplest most technologically pure solutions to problems and this fits that bill.

But once it is together it is perfect for the kayak
A little hard to put together. Comes in three pieces (pole, handle, reel). Does not come with instructions to put it together and the pole is hard to lock into the handle if you can't figure out to push down & twist. But once it is together it is perfect for the kayak.
