Original comment below... I had to update this review and change it from 5 stars to 1 star. I bought this for a wedding to overdub the sound onto the video, the clip on mic that came with it was perfect for clipping on the groom to catch all the vows... I used it quite a few time on the days leading up to the wedding and it worked great. The I went to the rehearsal for the wedding the day before, it recorded as it should and picked everything up that I needed... Then on the day of the wedding, about 5 minutes before the ceremony started I clipped it on the groom and started the recorder. It showed the timer counting so I knew it was recording, i set it in his pocket and he walked off... After the ceremony, I got it back from him and it was off (only about 30 minutes after starting it). I thought "ohh no, I hope it recorded the vows"... then i plugged my headphone in to review, and after 3 seconds it comes up with a message "FORMAT ERROR"... I took it home, plugged it into my computer and sure as shit, nothing is there... I am sooo disapointed I bought this and didnt spend a little more money on something of quality... If you are not doing anything important, or something doing something that can be re-done if needed, then this would work for you, but if you have one shot to capture what you need DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK!*ORIGINAL*Included mic works, but isn't very great sound quality. Recorder works perfect though and lasts a long time on the battery.

For $15 it does an ok job of recording. You won't be getting amazing recordings out of it though. It does not record wav format like it says on the page. It only records in mp3. The functionality of the device is a little confusing and annoying once you figure it out. Basically, you get what you pay for with this device. If you just want to record a lecture(at close range) or take personal notes it will be just fine. Otherwise, go somewhere else.

I bought one of these after seeing how well it worked for a friend who is a professional video producer. It arrived remarkably fast, considering that it was shipped from China. So far I've made it halfway through the instructions, which also came from China, and still can't figure out how to charge the lithium battery, which may still be in China, for all I know. The wires, mike, earbuds, and patchcords are bigger and weigh more than the recorder, which is beautifully designed and has writing so small that I wish it came with a magnifying glass. I'm almost at the point of ordering a used 12-year-old child from the Amazon Marketplace to help me figure it out. But, like I said, this recorder worked great for my friend, and when I grow up I hope it will work great for me too.

I thought this thing looked cute. I'm a professional recording engineer, and I wanted something to take voice notes other than my phone. It records fine (doesn't sound good, but it literally can't at $20), but it won't playback the recordings - displays "empty disk!" error when I try. This is weak. I bought this to take voice notes, which requires PLAYING THEM BACK. I realize this is likely a glitch with this specific unit, but really? Weak.EDIT: I was able to fix this by going into disk utility in mac and erasing the recorder and reformatting as fat32. That worked fine, now it's back to working great.

OKAY, BUT BATTERY DIED AFTER JUST A COUPLE OF MONTHS… NOT REPLACEABLE….

The main reason I wanted this is to record my conversations with my daughter. You know what happens to the little ones when they know they are being recorded. The fact that you can immediately play what you have recorded, the easy to use functionalities and very long battery life are few of the many prons. I am also using it to record lectures and speeches...and it works fine for that as well.

I gave it as a gift and he really enjoed it .works well. he uses it alot for intervies that he conducts

Instructions written in ChinEnglish weren't bad enough so they made the guide prompts on the device even worse. The buttons don't correspond to traditional Rec Play Fw Rw, etc. Should have spend more money to get something I can use.
