Unfamiliar Underground: Finding the Calm in the Chaos of London's Tube Stations

Ignore the horrible reviews.
I heard about this beautiful book on the Robert Elms show on BBC London - the author was interviewed - so, ignoring the rather horrible, mean spirited “reviews”, I ordered a copy. If you consider this book boring or repetitive then you must be reading a different book and clearly didn’t read the product description properly. This is the London Underground as we rarely see it, and the photos capture that perfectly. There are plenty of other books available if you want to see bright, colourful images - go and buy them if that’s your thing.I applaud Victoria Louise Howard for having the courage to confront her fears and attempting to overcome her anxiety. In doing so she has produced a refreshingly different and beautiful book. Buy it!

6* Book is a must have
What a very good book interesting text how she approached each station and of course the photos were really good dark and bleak I know they were digital but look like film and printed in the darkroom.

A remarkable book
Victoria Howard has produced a wonderful set of images of the London Underground, full of atmosphere. In this project, in which she photographed every station on the system, her primary concern was to have every image free from people. In a mass transit environment used by millions every day, this is no mean achievement. The book itself is well printed on good quality paper and feels substantial. My only gripe is that the images themselves are often printed too dark, so that some of the detail that makes each station photograph unique is lost. The book also includes Victoria's touching diary entries as she worked her way, over a five year period, through her list of 270 stations.

A rewarding purchase
Highly imaginative project. The images are striking and have a strange, almost eerie feel to them. Busy places without the people - what a great idea.

Dull, repetitive and very boring very quickly.
Certainly NOT a "mean spirited" review. What should I do, lie? (See below reviews) Sorry but what a disappointment!! Dozens of pictures all excactly the same, dull, lifeless, soulless, colourless. I thought at first it was a missprint but no, this is how it is!I I just don't get that. I lost interest in the book after just a flick through. It's a flick through once book. For a £20 hardback its certainly not worth it. Sending it back.

Pictures most impressive
This is a Christmas present for one of my adult children who worked on the Jubilee line project but I was impressed with it when browsing through

A different view on an everyday environment
Excellent And thought provoking book, allowing us to pause and consider surroundings we ordinarily take for granted.
