Sophocles: Philoctetes (Cambridge Greek and Latin Classics)

Very Helpful Notes on Translation--not just on context and related texts!
I'm a grad student in Classics and I gotta say, I love this book. The notes are so very helpful that you could probably translate without a lexicon handy--you will not like this if you don't like translation notes, which I am a big fan of. I gotta say, he translates a lot of the lines, which is both good and bad--bad for learning on your own through the struggle of trying to read Greek on your own, and good because if you are short on time or reach a very convoluted section, he will probably have a very detailed note with a suggested translation that will no doubt help you out of any jam. The intro is excellent too. Really knows his stuff!

Good!
The Green and Yellow edition is quite nice. The commentary section isn't very extensive, and as such might prove difficult for a beginning Greek student. But still a very nice edition.

Five Stars
Schein's commentary is a bit sparse in places but on the whole tremendously helpful and erudite

A brilliant translation.
If you really want to know what made this play so popular over two thousand years ago (and do not know Classical Greek) then this is the translation for you. It is a brilliant and poetic interpretation of Sophocles' play that might almost make you want to learn the original language so that you can wallow in the original.

製本について
内容はWebster版より印刷も鮮明で、コメンタリーもわかり易い(少々くどい部分があるが)良いが、製本が劣悪、商品になっていない。購読クラスで複数の人が同時に購入したが、全員がページをフルに開いた際にページが外れたり、ページがずれてしまったりしている。取り替えをしてもらっても同じ状態となると思われる。販売責任と製造責任は誰がどうとるのか?製本メーカの責任なら製本品質をどう改善するのか公表すべきである。
