Ravine Volume 2

A Gorgeous, Fun But Sadly Short Lived Fantasy Epic
Stejpan Sejic's absolutely stunning artwork once again jumps from the page of this fantastic, but unfortunately short lived fantasy tale. While the first volume of Ravine is pretty good, but weighed down by a huge amount of exposition and background information to set up the complex world of the book, the second volume allows the story to breathe a bit more and gives better life to the characters. Sejic's indie titles are rife with great character interactions (helped here by cowriter Ron Marz) and Ravine Vol 2 is a great example of that. After the first book leaves off with main characters Lynn and Stein meeting up in a chance encounter, the second story continues their adventures on the road as outside forces scramble to find them. Lynn is the heiress to a powerful nation's throne and Stein is, in secret, a wanted dark sorcerer responsible for hundreds of deaths. Both are Wanderers: figures blessed with powerful weapons that contain the souls of past heroes who are destined to affect great change in the world. As they bond and a romantic interest develops between them, the outside forces who hope to find them both (to use Lynn for her royal blood and to punish Stein for his past misdeeds), the story starts to really build up steam. Sadly, this is so far one story that will never really be finished despite the great work done in this volume. Sejic has since publicly explained that the series "hemorrhaged" sales (in his words) and was quickly cancelled by Top Cow (a partner of Image). Sejic claimed he wanted to keep the series going as a free web comic, but it is unclear if those plans ever came to fruition. Still, this is a fun story that is worth reading and I encourage anyone who enjoys Sejic or Marz's other works to pick it up to support them.

I Want More
The epic fantasy Ravine gets bigger in “Volume 2” as Stjepan Sejic delves into the background of one of his primary characters, one whose anti-hero past is both dark and surprisingly light. Not only does Sejic grow the scale in the story “proper” but his appendix entries makes one wish he had the chance to draw them in epic art instead of prose.Stein and Lynn join together in their journeys out of Palladia into the territory of the city-state of Wade during which Lynn comes to like the Wanderer, though Stein only tells his traveling companion half-truths about his life while avoiding the darker patches of his personal history. Meanwhile Lynn’s true past surprises and/or angers members of her former Dragoon squad who are sent to meet up in Wade. However Stein’s previous actions and his dark past have him being followed by the Captain of the King’s personal guard who along with a former rural guard-turned-travelling companion interact with someone close to Stein, how they are connected is easily guessed and later confirmed in the appendix tales. The end of the volume has Stein and Lynn facing off with a insane dragonrider terrorizing the trading routes in and around Wade and Palladia, the encounter makes the reader want to see more.Unfortunately for readers who love both Volumes of Ravine with Sejic’s magnificent art and great storytelling, Volume 2 did not sell well and thus Sejic had to put this series on hold after waiting 11 years to publish this story. If you enjoyed Ravine as much as I do then I encourage you to spread the news about how great Ravine is and get a following for it so Sejic can be able to publish more of this story in the future.

Another Phenomenal Installment!
Ravine Vol 2 is just as, if not more, epic as the first volume! The story is so d*mn good you never want to put it down. And the art?! Unbelievable. I read alot of comic books. Most indie comics (and even the big name companies) release comics that have really good art on the front but the rest of the pages have mediocre drawings. Not the case with Ravine. Each page is a work of art! Everytime I flipped a page I thought, "Dang, wish I could have a print of that hanging on my wall..." The story in Vol 2 is exceptional and digs alot more into the questions you probaly had with characters and backgrounds from the first volume. There are also really good short stories at the end. My only complaint is the huge cliff hanger at the end! I hope we dont have to wait another few years for Vol 3. I need more of Lynn and Stein!

Very good. Very very good
Very good. Very very good. I can't wait for the next one to come out. But we will have to wait an unbearable long time, and then wait again, etc. I think the authors should stop working on all their other projects and focus on finishing this series, it is worth it.Update: I just re-read Ravine volume 1 and 2. It's been years since I read them originally. What a joy to read them again, I found myself gasping out loud as I read. It's an incredible story. Everything feels so real, it is so well done, the details, the story, the creatures, the politics, the world, the characters, the artwork. I have been waiting hopefully for volume 3, aching to know what happens next.

Still a hallmark for fantasy comics!
I already reviewed the first volume of this series but the second one deserves as much recognition as the first. The story continues at a quick, yet satisfying pace, engaging all the main and various side characters in the plot and keeps the reader interested and invested every step of the way. More and more questions arise as to the intricacies of the story and the connections between characters, and Stjepan Sejic continues his brilliant writing and characters along without any loss of intrigue. His art continues to be exceptional and show his trademark style, further exploring the richness of the fantasy world he has so determinedly crafted. If you loved the first volume, this isn't even a question, read this one.

Very ambitious storytelling
There seems to have been a huge amount of thought put into the creation of this world, the word "sprawling" comes to mind. There is so much to move into place that it rather hampers the progress of the story but I am keen to see it develop.

What a fantastic find. I love this series; great art and intricate world-building coupled with a deepening story. This is the fantasy graphic novel I have been looking for. I cannot wait for the next volume.

Five Stars
Beautiful artwork, and a decent story from the hardest working man in comics, Stjephan Sejic.

More goodness from Stjepan
The plot thickens. This book has even better drawings, more incredibly paced action and more insight into the characters. Everything that makes a brilliant story.
