SHIMANO PD-EH500 SPD & Flat Dual Sided Bike Pedal for Indoor Cycling & Urban Riding

I got these for my transition between road biking - where I've been using SPD pedals for years - and mountain biking where I was finding that I needed/wanted to be clipped in for some thing and unclipped for more difficult terrain. First, the pedals are top quality. They are incredibly easy to get into and unclip from. They are light and just built well overall. The flat side is not as big as a normal flat MTB pedal though so be aware of that. If this kind of pedal is what you want, you will not be disappointed. Having said that, I've switched to flat pedals on my MTB. In the end, I got tired of trying to decide whether to use the clip side or the flat side. The clip side is great for that feeling of being solidly connected to the bike but it was holding me back from tackling more and more difficult terrain. The fear of not being able to unclip if I couldn't manage a section was getting in my head and making me not try things. It's too hard to anticipate the proper side in dynamic terrain. Plus, it was too hard to find the right side if you had to start on a hill or some difficult patch. I switched to regular flat MTB pedals and have been much happier. Knowing I can get out has given me much more confidence to tackle tough sections and I've enjoyed riding them much more. Given the proper shoes, my feet stick pretty well on the pedals anyway so it's not as bad as it could be. My feet do come off every once in a while but overall, I'm glad I went flat. That's not the fault of these pedals though so I stand by my high rating.

If you enjoy or are seeking a “two sided pedal”, this is an excellent and affordable choice. I put about 25,000 miles (over three years) on my first set of these pedals before buying a new set; and I didn’t buy a new set because the old one wore out, I just wanted a “shiny new set”. Getting in and out of the clipped side of the pedals is smooth and easy, and they secure very nicely to my shoes. The non-clipped side of the pedals have many protrusions and efficiently keep my shoes from sliding off the pedals.

I’ve been riding clipless pedals for more than a decade. These things are great. They clip easy, unclip easy and don’t unclip when they shouldn’t. I initially thought I was going to be displeased with the single side clip but it’s been pretty easy to get it right. I bought them for my gravel bike and might replace the ones on my mountain bike. They’re just that good!

Nice pedals; but they are NOT black or even charcoal gray, but rather a very distinct metallic blue-gray. If you are particular about color, this may annoy you. Aside from this, Shimano SPDs are my go-to pedals, I put them on all my bikes. But they should really fix the color on this model to be neutral. Black would work for everyone.

Been riding MTB and road bikes with Shimano clips ever since they started making them and (a long time). I like these the best so far. Have to install pins but they work well and threads are coated snd seem secure after first ride. Came with cleats but I used my old ones (very old) and getting in and out is easy. Adjustment of pedal tension for clips is simple and noted on pedals. L/R labelled, which is nice. Some do not label side/thread. I like the size of the flats. Large enough but not insanely big. Nothing I would change other than having pins preinstalled but some may not want pins and would likely increase cost. I bought a second set for my road bike.

Excellent product. Easy to install. Well packaged. Delivery was supposed to be before 1pm but arrived at 3pm which ki d of messed my day up other than that it would be a 5

Éste es mi tercer par de pedales que compro para mi bici MTB. El primero me duró muy poquito, el segundo me duró como 1 año. Estos se ven que me van a durar mucho. Aparte la construcción y los materiales son de primera. Si usan su bici para escaladas fuertes, les recomiendo que se compren unos buenos pedales como éstos shimanos.
