SteelexPlus D3206 Drill Guide Kit

I was able to do what I needed to do. Which was drill a hole in a pvc pipe, while keeping it centered.

i wish Amazon let you just make comments. But I gave it 3 stars becs you have to star it. I got this for the metal inserts, which I use as drill spacers (to limit the depth of a drilled hole by putting the insert around the bit). Unfortunately (or fortunately) I own a lovable, vivacious Labrador Retriever dog. Especially when he was a puppy & I would be working outside with tools on the ground around myself, & he would silently come up & make off with a tool -- they love to carry things in their mouths. He chewed the plastic and broke it.I am thinking that it may be better to roll your own. Why not take a 2 inch thick flat hardwood or (even steel) piece and drill it precisely at 90 degrees in your drill press. Then use that for a drill bit guide -- if you want to drill perpendicular holes. ??? If you use steel, I think a hollow rectangular tube shape would work, without being solid 2 inches of steel!

This does just what I needed for the low cost value. I was able to make a wood jig set up to allow me to fix it in place while I drill the holes, this slight modification allows me to get consistant holes that line up on 2 seperate boards that I am joining together without having to plane them down or do a lot of unnessasary sanding.

I did order the wrong item wanted smaller drill guides, I did use the 3/16 one that was the smallest one I could actually use, the rest were way to big

Good idea and it has worked well for most projects, though I don't like the plastic jig. If it were metal, the guides for the bits could be secured in the jig. I would give this another two stars if the jig were metal, if the guides could be secured in the jig, and if the jig could be secured to the project with different clamps rather than by nailing the jig to the work piece.

Used this to drill a hole in a steering shaft. Was able to drill the hole with out removing the steering column. The hole was very accurate, was only off by a 32nd of and in. Plastic peice is a little weak but I was working it pretty hard.

Seemed on the surface to be a good idea. Low price should have been a clue that there may be a problem. Arrived on time and well packages. Somewhat light weight clumsy device with metal sleeves of various sizes, markings difficult to read. Also comes with an Auger point to mark and start potential drill holes. The auger point doesn't fit any sleeve well enough to be accurate and is too large for the smallest sleeve that I suspect it was intended to fit. The supposed marked sizes of the sleeves don't correspond to any drill set that I own. Drills that will go into the sleeves are not the sizes as marked and are too sloppy to be accurate. Overall a disappointing product. Did the 33% of people who gave this a good review ever actually try to use it?? Amazon, please pull this off your listings!

The centering nail that comes with it is too large to fit through the centering socket. I contact the manufacturer, They check their inventory and confirmed that all of their stock was defective as described above but were did not offer to send me a replacement nail or set when they received the correct size from their manufacturer in China.

This is a good idea but the bushings that come with it are not the right sizes for my drill bits. I own pretty standard bits from Milwaukee, ryobi, and other big box store brands. But the bushing dont provide a snug fit which means there will still be some play in the drill and you wont get a perfect straight hole. Also, the opening is very small so this only works for standard straight bits, not anything larger like a Forstner bit, i dont think thats a major issue but just something to keep in mind.

The clear plastic base is not flat but curved, which means you cannot actually use it to guide the drill perpendicular to the drilling surface. Some of the metal guides are also off-center and none of them fit snugly in the plastic base. You have to hold down the metal guides (in addition to the plastic base) when drilling which is not only extremely dangerous but also defeats the purpose of having a guide.The drill guide diameters do seem to be precise though I didn't check all of them since I do not have drill bits in all the included sizes. The package comes with a center punch which is the only part of the package that I liked. Now I can make little dents on the wood and drill off-center holes at some random angle, which I could have done without this "guide".They should take this product off the market. I will not buy any Steelex product ever again

Cet outil n'aurait jamais du être fabriqué. Il a été mal conçu. La pièce métallique qui s'insère dans la partie en plastique peut tourner avec la mèche provoquant ainsi de la chaleur pouvant faire fondre le plastique. La pièce métallique ne peut plus être retirée parcequ'elle est soudée au plastique. L'outil devient donc inutile...

First of all, this does not substitute for a small drill press. The unit however, will aid in the accurate drilling of holes of various diameters in areas where a drill press can never be used. This unit is a must for those who work on crafts and small size projects.
