Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse "Lost In Lands Long Ago": Volume 6

A Very Welocme Blast From the Past
When I was in 3rd grade I owned a copy of Walt Disney Comics Digest #40, which included “The Bar-None Ranch”, “The Monarch of Medioka”, and “The Idol of Moaning Island”. Now, at the time I didn’t know or care who Floyd Gottfredson was and I wasn’t even that big a fan of Mickey Mouse! All I knew is that the stories blew me away, with my favorite being “The Bar-None Ranch”. I must have read and re-read this digest dozens of times until I practically had them memorized. However, later that year my mother made me give it away to a charity book sale and the stories were lost to me for decades. I have no clue how I missed these Fantagraphics releases of the Floyd Gottfredson classics over the last few years but I was browsing Amazon and found this volume which includes the “The Bar-none Ranch”. I bought it on the spot and the flood of nostalgia while reading it was incredible. “The Bar-none Ranch” is still just as entertaining today as it was back in 1973, when I first read it (I was 9 then and I’m 50 now). All the stories in this volume are excellent and the timelessness of the tales is what is so amazing to me. Some of them are dated, to be sure, but they still invoke a sense of wonder, adventure, and humor that is still very much a part of our modern consciousness. The art work is excellent. I have purchased nearly all the other volumes as well and it is fun to see Gottfredson’s artistic style evolve through the years – his Mickey Mouse is THE Mickey Mouse! The adventures included in this volume include:• “The Bar-none Ranch”• “Bellhop Detective”• “Land of Long Ago”• “Love Trouble”• “Mickey Mouse, Supersalesman”• “Mystery at Hidden River”• “The Gleam”They are all excellent stories with the standouts being “The Bar-none Ranch”, “Land of Long Ago”, and “Mystery at Hidden River”. The only thing I keep asking myself is, with such a wonderful catalogue of Mickey Mouse adventure tales at their disposal, why hasn’t Disney adapted at least one of these into one of their animated feature films? It seems a no brainer to me. I highly recommend this volume for kids and adults alike.

Gottfriedson is top notch
Gottfriedson was to Mickey Mouse as Carl Barks was to the Disney Ducks. The early stories are drawn a but roughly, but like all good artists, the Gottfriedson artwork smoothed out and became first class. On the other hand, the Mickey stories in the early ventures Are first class, appealing to adults as well as children. The observer can watch the development of this cartoon character over about 40 years and the growth is apparent .The early Gottfriedson's mouse is a scrappy, happy go lucky rascal whose adventures are plausible if a bit dramatic. Gottfriedson holds the interest of his readers to the very end. A first class publication, any Mickey Mouse fan will love. Highly Recommended.

The well crafted stories and the fantastic drawings bring excitement and joy to young and old readers the same way. It doesn't matter that some of the stuff is outdated. Because what really matters is the constant enjoyment one gets from reading the stories, of such wonderful characters and especially from admiring over and over the wonderfully dynamic, detail-rich and expressive drawings by the master Gottfredson !!

Peg Leg Pete Aw Reed Aw Reet
Fantagraphics really hits its stride and finds a terrific balance of comics anthropology and glorious funnies reprints. Once again the biggest drawback is the cover price, potential buyers are advised to purchase from the lowest priced seller one can find. With free shipping, of course.

Está bien
Esta aventura me ha gustado menos, pero ha sido entretenida.Desde luego trabajo de Floyd fue grande, con toda la producción que tuvo y la profundidad que le dio a los personajes Disney.

One of the best of the set
One of the best yet of the series. Mickey as we see him today comes alive in this book. Great stories. I few I have not seen before.
