POLSKI krok po kroku junior 1

Polski Krok po Kroku is Attractive But Confusing with Little Added Value
FIRST, these materials require a FLUENT Polish speaker support since EVERYTHING is in Polish with HARDLY any explanation! Its lessons are really examples or models of dialogs to be mirrored in exercises of matching, fill-ins, corrections, and pick one. This lack of background explanation or its not being grammar based program is very concerning! It is essentially a program with a bunch of colorful worksheets with an audio.SECOND, its layout consists of 10 long lessons with 6 subparts. We have only 5 months to cover the material, so we will be completing about 2 full lessons/mo. or 3 lesson subparts/week in both the textbook and its workbook. I do not like the fact that TEXTBOOK is CONSUMABLE: It contains written-in exercises. When its publisher added the student workbook, it did not exclude the writing exercises in the textbook and failed to add explanations to the lessons! Although one can use the online feature for the textbook exercises, this option is not working for us because our English keyboard does not contain the unique Polish characters.THIRD, You must have the teacher manual or Podrecznik Nauczyciela, if you want answers to the textbook exercises. However, if you are fluent in Polish, you will know the correct answers. The 10 chapter tests are also in the teacher's manual. That is important if you homeschool for credit. With the teacher's manual, you also get a key to the online feature to create & automatically grade your own exercises, to use other teachers' exercises or to complete the publisher exercises. To search online exercises, you need to utilize the exercise code, taken from the book. There are also optional linguistic games and student review checklists/lesson in the teacher manual.Bottom line, this is NOT an ideal course for us. It is setup to teach quick conversations. There is little if any grammar and culture presentation. Buying Polish language programs is like buying a cat in the bag. There is little information to go by. Yes, this curriculum is attractive with pictures and color and glossy pages in the textbook, and it is age appropriate for my middle school student. However, it is not well integrated across its materials, on and off line, and it is not covering all aspects of language learning, grammar, vocabulary & culture. Honestly, any free online, conversational course might be better than this product.

The book and the workbook are well laid out and work well. I would have given 5 stars, however, the online part of this program does not work at all. I requested the company to address the issues I ran into with the online version and I have not heard back. I speak Polish and purchased these books to teach my daughter the language.
