Rock-Solid Workhorse — Perfect with Arch Linux
I picked up the renewed HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dne to replace a flaky inkjet, and honestly, it’s been a total powerhouse. Even though it’s an older model, it runs like it was built to outlive the next five printer generations. The renewed unit came spotless — no toner leaks, no weird noises, and the fuser was still crisp. Here’s the kicker: I’m running Arch Linux with CUPS, and it recognized this printer immediately as an IPP Everywhere device. Zero driver drama, no weird dependencies, and no “Windows-only” nonsense. Just plug it into Ethernet, hit the CUPS web interface, and boom — printing from KDE’s file manager within minutes. It even works perfectly from my lp and lpr terminal commands. Printing is razor-sharp, black text is deep and professional, and it churns out pages faster than you can hit Ctrl+P. It’s old-school laser efficiency — no gimmicks, no app sign-ins, just solid reliability. Toner cartridges are easy to find and last forever. If you’re a Linux user, sysadmin, or just someone who hates printers that try to connect to the cloud, this thing’s a dream: no firmware locks, no spyware, and complete control through the network or USB. Pros: Works flawlessly on Arch Linux (CUPS autodetect) No proprietary nonsense or driver lock-in Built like a tank — quiet, fast, efficient Cheap toner, easy maintenance Cons: Doesn’t have Wi-Fi (which is actually the best part) Monochrome only (but that’s the point — text looks chef’s kiss) Bottom Line: If you want a professional-grade printer that works, especially on Arch Linux, grab this one while you still can. Renewed or not, it’s better than 100% of what’s being sold brand-new today.

Fantastic printer
I just bought my second one to avoid walking down the stairs to the first. Just plug it into your home wireless network RJ-45 port (on your wireless router) then use your operating system device manager to set it up. Or. plug it into a usb port instead. Simple. Inexpensively and flawlessly prints two-sided copies with readily available toner cartridges available from Amazon. And don't forget to order a toner cartridge to go with it. Refilled or new sizes 80A and 80X work with this printer. I use refilled.

Tireless workhorse
I've had this same printer multiple times. I print maybe 2-400 pages a day. This machine is a workhorse.

Workhorse of printers!
This printer is great! I had the same one previously & this one is even better. I reali5ze that it will print front & back, which I never stumbled upon with the same printer that I had for 5 years. Very satisfied!

Not Refurbished or Tested
Never tested. Paper tray won't pickup, memory errors, not refurbished, just boxed up and sent. If this was even tested they never would have shipped it.

Works just fine.
I was a bit hesitant to get a refurbished printer, but other reviews eased my reluctance. This printer is the exact same model I was using. I had to download and install the drivers from online, but that was easy for me. The printer is wonderful. So far, it works just like a new one. Cosmetically, it looks just fine. I have been very pleased. To buy a comparable new HP printer would have cost about twice the money, plus the new printers are so new that generic toner for them is not yet available at this time (Fall of 2023) on Amazon. So HP toner cartridges would cost well over $100 instead of generic $20 cartridges. Generic cartridges work just fine and save me a small fortune. I hope this information helps you.

Works well considering..
It seems to work quite well so far, but the inside of the plastic bag it was packed with was WET! The inside of the machine seemed to be fine and it is working at the moment, but the outside of the machine was very damp.
