This review is for artists, not for people that want to drink this stuff, as I have never tried drinking it. I am an oil painter and have tried many different types of turpentine oms and other solvents, from high end art brands like senneliers turps, to gamsol..to turpenoid..to hardware store turps. I have also tried the orange solvent alternatives. All of these products smell disgusting, the more expensive products are slightly better of course but are still not gentle on the nose. and sometimes these products cause adverse reactions for me like itchy red eyes. Contact with skin sometimes causes redness, ect... I first found this product in a youtube tutorial for oil painting and I decided to try it. The minute I took the lid off the bottle I knew that this was a game changer for me. It does not smell toxic, but smells like a pine forest. It reminds me of some nice gin or some nice frankincense essential oil. The smell is gentle and mild, and does not feel like an assault on my nostrils. When it comes to contact with skin, I have also dropped some on my leg a few times when painting and there is no burning or any terrible reactions. I still try to wipe it away of course just in case, but I don't feel nearly as afraid of doing harm to my body as I do with other solvents. Despite all of this, this is still a very powerful solvent. I put it in a starbucks cup for putting my brushes in and it melted the cup. I was really suprised because there is no way I could have guessed something so natural smelling could be that strong. This is STRONG stuff. You will have luck doing any type of art projects that require a stronger solvent (like making damar varnish, for instance. I am doing this soon and will update) The only downside to this product is the price. For drinking, this will last a long time I am sure. But for art, this product is expensive and goes fast. For brush cleaning I use 1/3 hardware store turps because I don't want to waste this incredible product on something like that. For painting I'd reccomend getting some type of bottle that will allow you to easily get a controlled amount out of the bottle so you can ensure you don't waste any. Evaporates very fast so make sure you have a lid! I know some people claim mineral spirits are less toxic then turps, but I hate the way they smell, I don't find gamblin gamsol to be as odorless as the company claims, and I am skeptical it is truly better for you. Even if it is, I am sensitive to smells and it makes it a less enjoyable experience for me. Artists, if you can afford it, try this product!
