how long are these straps?

12 feet according to their website (http://www.dakine.com/p/surf/rack-accessories/baja-tie-down-strap?clr=000). i have 2 pairs of these and can easily lash 4 surfboards stacked on top of each other to my Audi Q5 or Honda Pilot with plenty of slack to spare. Really happy with the purchase.

How wide are these straps?

The strap is between 1 1/4" and 1 3/8" wide.

Can you tie the board without using pads along with these?

Yes you can.... not the best option for your car.... in any case you can put a towel under the board if you do care about your car :)
