Guys Read: Other Worlds (Guys Read, 4)

These books are amazing. I have bought them before for my grandchildren who really enjoyed them! I love to see a book a little tattered.

I've been a Sci-Fi fan ever since my sister gave me a copy of "Foundation" when I was about eleven. This is a collection of science fiction/fantasy stories that is truly top notch. Several of them are quite funny. There's the alien invasion that is foiled by "the rules," for example. Some are pretty traditional, such as the one with the surprise twist at the end that involves a Scout and things falling from the sky. The book ends with a tribute to one of the greats, Ray Bradbury. The story, Frost and Fire, is one that I read as teenager and have thought of from time to time ever since. I'd forgotten it was Bradbury, in fact. It is such a good story that I honestly can't say that the others are as good. But that's like saying that they're not as good as "Macbeth." True, but it doesn't mean anything. These stories are excellent, speak right to the kid in me, and I'd recommend them to anyone who likes, or wants to try out, Science Fiction and Fantasy.

Got this book for my 7 year old son thinking he would devour it. He found it just ok and read it in bits and pieces of the last year, but always when he didn't have anything else to read. I think the stories and writing were good, just my son prefers a longer story vs short stories. Percy Jackson, Cat Warriors etc all keep him enthralled, but are longer and more coherent. Stories were definitely great for my son and these series would be great for a boys book club!

I bought this for my 4th grader. He loves the stories and has him more interested in reading.

This book seems to be set up as an advertisement for each of the authors' respective writing styles, something to give readers a taste so that they will purchase their other works. To be fair, I'm not a middle school boy, but I do enjoy other middle-school aged reading; I bought it primarily because I am a fan of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson books. The Percy story was okay, not particularly good or bad; it didn't appear to connect to any timelines from the books. Some of the other stories were okay, some of them were dull. Someone who has more of an interest in short stories (or has an actual middle-school age boy) might gain more from this collection.

I have only read one story in this book so far - Rick Riordan's "Percy Jackson & the Singer of Apollo" (or something similar to that title). He's the only author I'm really familiar with. I will eventually read the other stories. I hope that when I do read the other stories, that this rating will go up.

I gave this a five star rating because I really loved this book, this book had amazing stories in it and I must thank all the authors for that. But the story i really liked was the one made by Rick Riodran (Percy Jackson and the singer of Apollo),But overall I loved this book!-Max

All the guys reads are fantastic. I felt my hands griping tighter and tighter as I read through this amazing book. All the stories are great, keeping you reading, making you wonder what's gonna happen, and they'll keep you up before bed. These are great books, and I can't wait to read the next on

Nicht super gut, aber doch ganz nett. Zwar fand ich einige der Geschichten recht langweilig, aber den Großteil der Geschichten hat mir gut gefallen.
