We love this series of books and have it almost complete. Since we are from Europe we wanted to learn about american dishes. This series is a great inside of prooven dishes from families, spiced with small stories about what happened the state.My wife ready these books and uses it to learn about the state, no joke, just by finding the small stories, or getting new ideas what to cook today. For me its similar.I am frequent in the US and had luck to find friends giving me an inside in american cooking. Its by far-far more then what you can get in fast food restaurants. This is as german food is more than Schnitzel or Bratwust, or swedish meatballs.We believe also for everybody who wants to learn about the culinary of the country is right here. It has so much to offer due to the fact that todays USA is a melting pot of many nationalies from the past and today. This gives a wide range of culinary opportunities you hardly find in other countries.

Bought as a gift but liked it so may order one for myself.

I thought this was a deal too good to be true. It was in a way. While the book was exactly as promised, new, and lots of good recipes, it apparently was an earlier edition. I guess the end result is I was pleased with the recipes and the history notes. I'm still making some recipes from it and so far all have been good.

Another reviewer listed the complete recipe for real Banana Pudding.. That did me in.. I just had to try this book!! I grew up with hand cranked ice cream in the Summer, peach pie, pecan pie from shelled nuts off of the tree in our yard, sweet tea, biscuits, fried chicken, real macaroni & cheese, greens with bacon... I hope this book will reflect my childhood.

This recipe book was perfect for a Missouri gift basket I put together.
