Card College, Vol. 1: A Complete Course in Sleight-of-Hand Card Magic

I am super excited to own this book. I also have volumes 2 and 3 and going to get volumes 4 and 5 as well. I have always been interested in magic. Especially card magic. I have owned royal road for quite some time but since it was written years ago I have found the language and descriptions hard to follow. Enter card college. Giobbi’s work is just what I was looking for. I am only in the second chapter but I am finding the explanations to be clear as well as the great line drawings. Also, each chapter has checkpoints which the author gives personal insights pertaining to the slight or technique being taught. It is like a full time professional card conjurer is taking you by the hand a leading you every step of the way. I have been so impressed with Volume one that I ordered volume 2 and volume 3 just arrived today. This book is a must have for the serious student interested in card magic

This book has consistently been recommended by friends of mine who are professional magicians. Was not disappointed by the level of detail that Giobbi goes into describing the position of the hands, the psychology of moves, and lots of "Check Points" to make sure that you are doing the methods correctly. The tricks included that make use of the methods are quite nice as well.

This book is so crazy! The level of detail, even in the most basic things, is amazing. I haven’t read all of it yet, but things I already knew, or at least thought I knew, were shown in a way where I now do them differently and better!

This is considered the premier course on card magic for a reason. Starting from simple beginnings, he manages to cover a breadth of technique that no other book can match. Spend time on this one rather than devouring it. Practicing basics is critical to doing anything in the way of real effects.

This is the first volume in a series of 5 books written by Robert Giobbi (he has also written a couple of spin-off's along similar lines to these).The books should be read in order, and are what they purport to be, a complete course in card magic. I have been an amateur magician for years, and have a large collection of magic books. This is a first class introduction to card magic and, in my opinion, the definitive place to start when wanting to learn card magic. The books start with the real basics, and build on this gradually and comprehensively. A nice touch is how each book starts with a brilliant diagram of a hand and a pack of cards, labelling each different element and making it a great reference point to refer back to when reading the text.The book is not cheap, but worth every penny. The diagrams are fantastic, the writing engaging and well written, and most of all Giobbi is a masterful magician who really knows his stuff. After seeing the quality of the first volume, I immediately went out and purchased the remaining 4 despite the prohibitive cost.The only thing similar to this in my experience is The Royal Road to Card Magic. This itself is an excellent resource, and another fantastic course in card magic. It is however a little dated and whilst still in my view an essential purchase for any budding card smith, this work has surpassed it's predecessor, brought the subject bang up to date and is presented in a much easier way to digest and get into.If you want to learn card magic, then look no further. This is the place to start.

The best introduction to real magic available. Teaches the importance of learning to perfect the very basic to achieve truly incredible effects. If you want to be the best of the best- this is where to start. A rich and engaging journey full of self discovery, and self development. Don't buy into DVDs or shoddy youtube tutorials- this book has an ENORMOUS amount of material which far outshines everything else. I used to buy into Ellusionist stuff, until I did my research, and came across this. It's a card experts bible, which is incredibly accessible and deep. Can't recommend it enough, to both beginner and veteran card workers. As proof, I enclose photos of my own E collection- this book is worth more than all of these put together- ( however, the Ambitious Card DVD is great :)If you are on the fence about investing, don't hesitate! An essential purchase!

This book is one of the best to start learning magic with. I've looked a lot for a hardcover one and I have to say that I'm pretty satisfiedArrived on time, and in perfect conditions.

Do you want to learn how to handle cards PROPERLY? If you want the easiest setups for tricks, sleights or cardistry then this book is a must. I've not yet bought the others in the series as I'm yet to finish this one, but they are certainly on my wish list for the New Year,
