easy way to remove nails
I was needing to remove some kitchen cabinets that had been installed by a previous home owner who did not know how to install them. They used 10 penny zinc coated nail and I could not get ahold of the heads to pull then, so I thought about a plug cutter that would just fit over the heads and I* could then easily remove the cabinets and then the nails. It worked beautifully, and now I will cut some wood plugs or dowel rods just the right dia and plug the holes in the cabinets.

I have used this set of cutters several times and they work great. I have only used the straight cut 3/8 with this set. I bought these once before and they were great until someone burglarized my shop. Liked them well enough to replace with the same ones.

Good once you "fix" them!
Okay, I am a hobbyist woodworker and I was not paid for this review and I paid for this item. I am making a large picture frame with bridle joint corners and I need to make some walnut plugs for the corners. I just finished using the 3/8 tapered plug cutter in this set and made eight (8) plugs the full length the cutter would allow. First, these are definitely made in China...the ones I received do not look as quality as the ones in the photo for the item. The wooden box that mine came in was made of poor quality plywood which peeled apart and a piece of the latching mechanism was missing (pretty much the box is worthless and you may want to quickly make your own). Also, you will need to sharpen these prior to using. The edges and cutting corners that should be sharp on these were either blunted or dull. I used a small diamond file in order to do this. I used the straight file in this set, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004CVJBY4/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 found on Amazon also. The straight file in this set is narrow enough to get into the spaces in the tapered cutters. Second, you must go super slow with these and maybe even back off a little 3-4 times through the cut and let the bit cool off. Especially important with hardwoods (another reason to sharpen these well prior to using). Third, if you get the tapered plug set up right in your drill press with a sacrificial board underneath they will automatically remove the plug from your board and it will stay in the cutter. This is great and you will need to use a flat head screwdriver or something like that to work out the plug. CAREFUL not to touch the cutter - it will be super hot. TIP # 1: If you are attempting to get plugs that have a dark face and you have a board with some heartwood or dark areas on one side - put that side face down at your drill press. When you cut the plug the larger tapered end is actually from the bottom of the hole (I know, makes sense, but I didn't think of that until I cut a few). TIP # 2: Cut the holes that your plug will go into with a fine forstner bit versus a twist bit. Lock down you piece solidly as well. These two things will insure a much tighter and cleaner fit for your plugs. Overall, if you keep these sharp in between uses, you will be able to cut a lot of plugs. If you expect to do a lot right out of the box, you are going to get a lot of burning and poor quality. I would actually buy these again, just knowing that I would have to kind of get them ready before use.

Rough finish
I had to resharpen all of them for a clean cut. Once that is done they work very well.

So far, disappointing
I chose these since they were far from the cheapest in the belief "you get what you pay for". I have a fully equipped wood shop and have been doing wood working for almost 50 years so this is not my first set of wood cutting bits. Before using these on the walnut and oak, I tried a sample plug cut for both straight and tapered plugs cutting poplar - a very soft wood. The tapered bit immediately blackened and smoked the wood. This would be typical on a fast machine or hard pressure but I used slow pulley settings on the drill press and fed slowly.Unsure why but does not make me feel confidence in this brand. Will try again with other bits from this set. If it happens again, will have to return them

Be sure to use a good press when cutting the plugs
These are decent for the price. Be sure to use a good press when cutting the plugs. Any run out at all will cause problems.

Mala calidad - No tienen filo

Not very sharp
The product was as advertised however it is not as sharp as I as I had anticipated. I found the quality was not it was not great. It does work as advertised but would probably go with a higher quality next time.

Bad finish on these- quite rough wobbly cutting edges- they aren't even that cheap to buy.
Poorly machined- quite rough finish- I didn't even try to use these- I returned the set- used good quality ones ordered from Lee Valley Tools instead.
