Conquer Your Fear of Water: An Innovative Self-Discovery Course in Swimming

After 46 years I can finally say, "I CAN SWIM!"
In the beginning I was skeptical. I thought there was no way I could learn to swim from a book. But reading all of the reviews and testimonials gave me hope. Now I'm convinced. Follow the steps in this book and you will learn to be free in the water (shallow or deep). However, you really do have to say, "Enough is enough!" and make the commitment to learn. It ain't easy getting up each morning having to face your fears. But trust me, if I can do it, ANYONE can do it.There's really nothing profound to be said. Follow the steps. Trust the author. There were some steps where I thought I knew better. I was wrong. As soon as I gave in and started doing things the way the author said to, I began making progress again.I averaged about 45 minutes per pool session. Maybe I'm a bit of a slow learner, but it took me 32 sessions before I really felt like I was free in the water (again, shallow or deep). Here was my road to success:1. Say, "Enough is enough!". Make the commitment to learn to swim.2. Follow the steps in the book. Trust what it says. Read it over and over throughout your learning process.3. Eat, sleep, and breathe swimming. Go to YouTube and watch people succeed with this method. Watch them learn to swim. Go to the website and read all the testimonials. Read all the positive reviews here on Amazon. ...4. Don't get discouraged. See step 3 above.5. Be gentle, kind, and patient with yourself. Take baby steps and YOU WILL GET THERE.I can't express enough the gratitude that I have for people like Melon Dash (the author). This has been a dream (literally) of mine for decades. I still can't believe it. Not only was it a huge risk for me to not know how to swim but I missed out on so much fun. But that's all in the past now. Make the commitment to learn--with Melon's help. You will not regret it.

This book has changed my life
I didn't really have a fear of the water -- at least I didn't think I did. I thought I was simply not comfortable in it. I'd had some truly awful & terrifying swimming lessons as a child, and some better ones more recently as an adult. I was athletic enough in other activities -- why was swimming such a struggle?I was about to say "To hell with swimming!" when I read this book. And thank goodness I did.Melon Dash writes with so much empathy (and some sympathy) that I felt like she was talking to me, personally. Comfortable in shallow water but not the deep? That was me. Believed for years that in order to float your body is supposed to be fully extended on the surface of the water? Me, too. (She explains brilliantly why that isn't true.) Struggling with breathing because you're not relaxed enough? Yep.Read this book slowly. Absorb each lesson. Dash says it's guaranteed to work and she's right. If you're planning to take swimming lessons, read this before you take a single one.Not only has my swimming improved vastly, but other areas of my life have gotten better too. Dash's "Five Circles" concept is absolutely spot-on and you can apply it to both swimming and just about anything else you're trying to do (in my case, playing piano).I'd give this 10 stars if I could. Thank you!

Best on the subject
This is my fourth purchase of Conquer Your Fear of Water. I first purchased the book in 2008 and as a result I took the MSI course. It is the swimmer's bible, whether you have a fear or not. The information is invaluable to all those that are interested in or currently learning how to swim, as well as to those that already swim. My latest purchases were for my current swimming instructors, who have found it very useful. Since reading this book and taking the MSI course, my fear of drowning has been eliminated and I continue to progress in my quest to become a great swimmer. This book focuses on comfort, control, and confidence which will result in safety in the water. Skills are the fruit, not the root. It deals with the cause and effects of your fear and eliminates them by disspelling all previous misconceptions about water. Each class begins with one hour of classroom discussion, which covers the material in the book, and then two hours of pool time. As I progress, I always refer back to the book. This book will enable you to not only become a great swimmer but also a great swim instructor.

Good also to help your kid with the fear of water.
Good book, I am able to use the information also with my kid (6 years old). As the swimming trainer said that he is afraid of water and he only can teach him swimming technique, I decided to give a try with this book. I read it and manage to explain to him what to do and how to have a good mindset. After the 1st lesson (just 1h) he can float on his own on his face and make some basin swimming moves with his hands and he is gradually learning to overcome his fear of water. Will still have long way to go but the fact that he can float on his own on the 1st lesson is remarkable.

once I said yes she had me float face down and I started using my arms & kicking once I became comfortable.
I started the book prior to refresher swim lessons. The book was right; if you've ever known how to swim, once you realize you simply have some basis in fear and conquer it you will quickly take off. I basically did so immediately. I don't know if I would have done so without reading that in the book. Once I learned it was in my head, all that was left was to do it. The instructor simply asked if I had ever learned to swim, once I said yes she had me float face down and I started using my arms & kicking once I became comfortable.

Fantastic Book
This is a fantastic book. I had tried so many classes over several decades, group and individual, and I just couldn't learn to swim. After I read this book I tried out the exercises - very cautiously - in the shallow end of the pool ... And a few months later I traveled to Florida to learn to swim with Miracle Swimming. Best thing EVER.... and best thing I ever did for me :) No more fear of the deep end !!! Love it !!

A Great Help
I bought this book some while ago, but felt I had to read some of it before I could honestly leave a review, this book has been a tremendous help to me, as I started on my journey of learning to swim as an adult and to conquer my fear of the water, it helped me to understand how my fear of the water had manifested into a phobia, by putting into practice the exercises has been a great help, I just wish Melon Dash held swimming classes in the Uk. I would recommend this book to anyone who wishes to overcome their fear of water.

A useful book
I am learning to swim at my local leisure centre in a determined effort to overcome a fear of water. I haven't read all of this book but seems to provide a lot of useful tips to try and help increase confidence in the water.
