Love Frederick
Leo Lionni is a master. I love Frederick for its story of patience and the importance of noticing the world around you. This one celebrates artists.

Such a sweet story
I purchased this for a christmas gift and hope the little ones love the story as much as I do. Very sweet story about a little mouse that makes the winter "warmer". Cute.

Love the book; needs “do not bend” on the package for delivery
This not review about the book itself. Book is great and we love it. However, the package was left in our mailbox and even though I picked it up right away, the book was bended and damaged. I ordered two other books and the smaller in the same package was bended as well. The third book in a separate envelope had a smaller bend but still it is hard to gift a damaged book. So maybe a warning on the packages saying “do not bend” would help so postal service doesn’t try to cramp it all in the mailbox with the regular mail.I do recommend this book :)

A Beautiful Depiction
What a beautiful way to describe the projector energy from human design. This story shows us thst there's great power in honoring our gifts.

Horrible Story - amazed so many think this is an appropriate moral for children
Others have stated it well here, and we wish we had reviewed the negative reviews before we bought. In brief, this story is the antithesis of The Ant and the Grasshopper or The Little Red Hen. Frederick is lazy and refuses to help the other mice provision themselves for winter. Then, when the mice are cold and hungry, he regales them with poetry which they praise him for. It's an absolutely horrible moral for children. I don't mean to discount the value of poetry, but the notion that Frederick should be lauded for performing no work to stave of hunger and cold because he later distracts the other mice is shocking to me. This is not a moral we intend to teach our children. Others apparently disagree. Good luck with that, but our copy is going in the trash.

A beautiful unusual little tale
A beautiful unusual little tale. The value of Frederick's observations is apparent when his poetry is revealed to the others during their darkest times. I love that through this book, children will begin to understand how nourishing the mind and making emotional connections through art/music/poetry is just as important to happiness as having food to eat and somewhere to stay. We realise this need gradually as we grow up, and start to identify which examples of these are moving and meaningful to each of us, so I wouldn't expect small children to fully grasp the concept, but it will show them that there is more to life's pleasures than having physical requirements met.

Cute little story which has a wide age range.
This is a great little story which promotes much discussion between the little listener & the adult reader - which is as important as reading the story in the first place. Beautifully written & the illustrations are very sweet too. Fredrick has become a real favourite. I’m trying to adopt his philosophy into my life for when those long dark days of winter return. Delivered promptly & well packaged. Thank you.

Delightful children's story
This is a truly lovely book and I'm surprised I haven't come across it before. The art work is original and charming. The story describes how a family of field mice work all summer to gather in food for the winter - all except Frederick. He has different gifts which come into their own in the long winter months. Children at my Stay & Play group (under 5s) loved it - as did my 9 year old grandson.
