Go-juice for your optimism mobile...
For the past two years, Neil Pasricha has dedicated himself to identifying one new awesome thing every weekday, and posting it on his blog. Without fail, these things are commonplace. Things we experience in our daily lives without ever paying them much attention. Because of the regularity with which we experience them, it's easy to overlook how they make our lives better in big and small ways. What's delightful about the blog, and now this book, is that Neil gives us a chance to hit pause, and look back on our experiences, celebrating them, albeit belatedly. His writing is celebratory, engaging, funny, and inspiring. What's more, you don't have to read too many of his entries before you start paying attention to perfectly toasted toast, the last crumbly triangle in the bag of potato chips, or the smell of books, and smiling when you experience them. You also begin recognizing new awesome things yourself. Somehow, when you start paying attention to how the little, seemingly inconsequential things can brighten your day, the genuinely bad stuff doesn't seem so consuming. The world seems a little bit friendlier. A little bit smaller. A little more wonderful. Now that I've said that, I think it's really important to tell you that this is NOT A SELF-HELP BOOK (despite how I've seen it promoted recently). It's not a psychology book. It's not an instruction manual. It's a catalog of short, joyous essays about awesome things. I promise that you will walk away from this book having mastered no new concepts. However, I also promise that you will find yourself smiling and nodding in appreciation while you read -- a silent toast to awesome things you never took the time to recognize.I had high expectations for this book, which were well-exceeded. In fact, I liked it so much that I bought copies for my parents and my sister, who have enjoyed it as well.

Do yourself a favor - let this book help you find things to smile about
EVERY SINGLE DAY this brings a smile to my face. You can't help it! Cannot thank the author Neil Pasricha enough for bringing this and his other books and daily messages to the world. I purchased this for a friend roughing it through cancer treatments, and ended up buying another copy for myself. Want a burst of positive gratitude and a cheerful thought? Check it out.

Yes!
I have never written an Amazon review before, but I feel compelled to after reading The Book of Awesome. I absolutely love this book. I found myself giving an internal shout of "yes!" just about every time I turned the page (generally accompanied by a wide smile). You probably won't learn much that is new from reading the Book of Awesome (although the tabs in tin foil boxes and the gas arrow have already been helpful to me), but that is kind of the point. This book shines a light on everyday joys and truisms. It's power is the elevation of the obvious. It is hard to disagree with any of the awesome things highlighted by Pasricha, and his style and wit keep things moving and light. While you might not learn anything new from this book, it will change the way you look at the world around you. Just in the days since I picked it up, I have found myself celebrating green lights, loving old songs on the radio, and cheering when I pass a cop and realize I am already doing the speed limit. I have also turned into a bit of an amateur treasure hunter of awesome things, always on the lookout for simple pleasures. After getting through my copy of the book, I went back and ordered a few more, just to keep around as gifts. This book is so approachable, and so relevant for just about everyone, I can't wait to give it to friends. The Book of Awesome asks us to simply pay attention the the great things in life, and we are all better for it.

Quirky Printer Error?
I bought this book because I love Neil's "3 Books" podcast. I found the book to be interesting and quirky, but it does not rate as awesome. He just goes on for too long on some of his subjects. I don't think an adult needs to read three pages concerning milk-to-cereal ratio. And definitely not awesome was the fact that in my paperback copy at page 122 there are 32 pages from Tao Lin's book "Trip" inserted. And "Awesome" skips to page 155! I have never seen anything like this.

Appreciating the world around us.
This is a great easy read to remind us all of so many things we take for granted in this world. It's becoming too easy to focus on what's wrong with the world we live in rather than what's right that I found this book very refreshing. Not a bad gift for graduates that have their lives in front of them and see only the difficult challenges ahead of them. I also bought the Happiness Equation and between the two books Neil shines a light on how we can all sometimes get our priorities and thought processes out of sync and instead of taking the time to appreciate what is good around us, and doing those things that will bring internal rewards, we get caught up in doing things for the sake of keeping up with our neighbors.

Genius
This guy is hilarious, he writes from the heart and is an excellent observer of the human condition. Very funny and laugh out loud-also perfect bedtime/waiting room reading as most items (if you like) are only a page or two long. So uplifting and light hearted would recommend to anyone who appreciates the little things in life-or needs to learn to!
