How's Your Soul?: Why Everything that Matters Starts with the Inside You

I will be reading this one again. It's that good!
I only have one minor critique but I do think it's noteworthy so I'll share that first and get it out of the way. I wasn't a fan of Smith's use of the word "sexy". It was applied to concepts that just didn't work for me. The text would have been richer without its use. That aside, this book goes up to the top of the list of books I will be thinking about for years. The message lifts the soul at the same time as it grounds it. Smith communicated his message well and presented it in a way that made my seasoned Christ-following mind do some double-takes. There have been a small handful of books that are worth the time to read twice, this one will make that list. I bought the Kindle version and the audiobook. I highly recommend the audio version. I enjoy listening to books that are read by the author and this one did not disappoint. It was made even better by the outtakes/bloopers at the end. Well done, Judah Smith! Thank you for the gift of this amazing resource. It is an encouragement, enlightenment, refreshment, and inspiration for my soul and the soul of the world is better for its existence.

I recommend it to anyone who is overwhelmed
This book- I can't say enough about it! I recommend it to anyone who is overwhelmed, sad, stressed or if their lives are just a little too crazy right now. First off, I am NOT a reader - in fact, this might be one of three books I actually own (I bought it on a whim at the beginning of a really tough season knowing I needed some healing, freedom and a good soul check.) Also, I have NO time to read - like ever... this book was easy to read and very engaging (caught myself laughing out loud at some of his examples!) Judah brings great "real life" examples of everyday craziness and how important it is to keep your soul in check/ HOW TO keep your soul in check. Have a highlighter nearby and be prepared to have to close the book to marinate on a point or concept he lays out. I am already re-reading it because I know there is so much goodness I probably missed the first read. I really appreciated his honesty and level of empathy for the ups and downs of life. This man is so God ordained & knows what he is talking about!MUST READ.

The discussion on God's provisions in the garden is reason alone!
I read this book as I was creating a workshop for my church "Renovating Your Temple Mind, Body and Soul: Psychological Practices from a Biblical Perspective" and wanted some fresh material on the soul. This book was GREAT! Even though I didn't know EXACTLY what I was looking for, it gave me exactly what I was looking for! Judah's breakdown of what God provided us with at the beginning of creation was invaluable. As a psychotherapist, I often run into clients who don't see the union of psychology and spirituality or religious beliefs and practices. This book helped me bring those two seemingly independent areas together in a fresh way. Also, Judah is funny and I appreciate his anecdotes throughout! ("I once told my wife to relax and it was almost the last thing I ever said." LOL! I can imagine!)

Get this book. Read this book. Live this book.
Every day we are greeted by people asking how we are doing. It is so common that we give a standard response and then we keep moving. We refuse to answer the question truthfully. Judah Smith is not satisfied with us simply answering that question. He wants to know how is your soul. It is a fitting title for the book that outlines ideas to help us answer that very question. He believes that it is a question that we must consider whether we claim the title of Christ follower or not.It is true that a Christ follower will get more out of this book, but in the end the true state of our soul will echo throughout our life in the here and now and in the hereafter. How’s Your Soul? has ten chapters that are fundamentally connected and help guide a journey that will allow you to evaluate your soul. One of the early statements from Judah (Can I call him by his first name? After reading all of his books I feel like we know each other.) is that our health and wellness do not move from the outside in, but rather in the opposite direction. If we are satisfied and well-trained internally, it will flow into our outward expressions and we will be seen as healthy. If you concentrate on the outside without tending to the internal struggles, you will wind up with a nice paint job, but no foundation to support the outward experience. Sadly, this is where most people focus their lives. That could be why so many people seem to have it together, but one crack in the framework that supports their life and they crumble.Regardless of if you believe your soul is well or not, you should read this book. You will gain a greater understanding of your own path and the areas that you need to adjust in order to get healthy. I have always enjoyed Judah’s books and have found them applicable to my life and his newest is no exception.Get this book. Read this book. Live this book. The world will thank you.
