Whatcha Mean, What's a Zine?

I checked this book out first at the library and fell in love with it! I was just getting into zines and me being the crafster I am wanted to know EVERYTHING about how to make them, distribute them, and find inspiration to create one. Now I finally have my own copy!!This book gave me pretty much everything I needed to know as a beginner. It is filled with zine related how to's! From what to write or make it about, to different shapes and sizes your zine can be, and how to distribute them. The content is great but I especially enjoyed the over all format of the book. I love the illustrations and just how the artists explained everything throughout. It made it a lot more fun to read! I would recommend this book to anyone interested in zines -more specifically to ones just getting into them or maybe not so sure how to make one. I think this could even be good for anyone just looking for more inspirations/ ideas for their zines!

I love how this book is fun and also gives a lot of information. I think it is good for anyone wanting to know about and/or create a zine, and mine even sported a little hand-drawn cartoon by Mark Todd. A lot of bang for the buck.

I gave only 4 stars because I was eager to learn about zines, but when I opened the pages, it’s all hand-drawn graphics and text. Honestly, it was extremely overwhelming to me and I had to put it down and look at it later.

First of all, I love the overall layout of the book; it really gives the feeling of how a zine should be put together. The best way to describe the layout is creative, with a mash up of hand drawn illustrations and a "scissors and glue" style of layout. This book contains so much information, great for someone who has no idea what a zine even is. Even better, it has the entire process behind making a zine and what you need to get started. Of course, the book had no dents or tears, and came in secure packaging.

It's a fun way to learn about zines, and you get a lot of referents. The way it's designed, full of drawing sometimes comes off as disturbing... It's hard to read the text itself because it's hand-drawn.

One of my favorite books. A fun read that shows you numerous ways to make your own zine. From simple zines to semi advanced ones. It also includes a lot of funny zine related stories and anecdotes. I met the author at the ny art book fair and he was a really cool guy.

Lots of ideas about 'zines' and frees up your creativity, with inspiring ideas for this formless form.

Información muy oportuna para todos los interesados en la autopublicación y el zine.El estilo del libro (manejo de la información, ilustraciones, entre otros) es muy amigable, lo cual lo hace más interesante.

Está muy bien el libro, habla sobre fanzines pero de una manera muy básica. El problema que le veo es que han intentado que el interior de las páginas parezca hecho a mano y hay veces que es imposible leerlo, textos muy claros sobre fondos con dibujos.... por el resto el contenido está bien pero no esperes demasiada información sobre su historia o referentes, mas bien trae muchos cómics y aportaciones de artistas. Además es muy fino, creía que traía más páginas pero es casi como una revista.
