A good basic humidifier
I'll give this unit a solid four stars. Why not five? Well, for starters there are only 3 fan speeds and exactly 2 of them are what I would call "useable". These would be low (whisper quiet) and medium (you can hear it but can easily talk over it). The high setting is ungodly loud - I live in an open design townhouse of 1800 sq feet and I can easily hear it across the house and on the upstairs floor when using high. Seems to me there should have been a 4th speed added between medium and high. The unit is simple to use. One button to turn it on, another button for the fan speed, and yet another for the humidity level. The buttons are "soft" and sometimes I have to press them more than once for them to work, though I wouldn't call the unit defective by any means (just the way the buttons work). I am not sure if changing the humidity level makes any difference (I honestly can't see a reason to reduce it from high anyway). You also cannot go "down" on settings (ie from high to low) and must cycle thru all of them starting low, med, high to get back to low, etc.I've only used it for less than two weeks so far, so I have not cleaned it yet though all there is to the unit is the base, filter, water level indicator, and top with the fan, so taking it apart literally takes seconds. I also refuse to use the recommended "water treatment" product that can be used with the unit as the warning label shows that to be highly dangerous and toxic. I have been considering puring half a cup of vinegar in the unit when it runs to freshen up the smell, but I have not yet tried it as I am not sure if that would damage the provided filter or not.At first, there seemed to be a slight musty smell coming from the unit for the first week or so, but either I've gotten used to it or it has gone away. As others have said, the unit had a lot of dust on in fresh from the box which I don't quite understand how that passes QC at the factory, but it was easily wiped off with a damp paper towel. As far as output, it easily will bring humidity up to about 5-10% above current levels on medium (YMMV), so overall I am pleased with the output. I know my place exceeds the 1000 sq limit on the size, but the house feels better regardless and I may get one for the upper level to cover the 2nd floor. Also, there is no annoying white dust and the output is basically invisible clean, cool air.All in all, I am satisfied. With a couple of minor design changes this could be an awesome unit.

Unimpressive but it works
I run this in a closed room to maintain humidity for my guitars. It works. It seems overpriced for what it is though. This unit is basically a thin-walled plastic box with a fan, filter, and minimal electronics. The low and medium fan speeds are fairly quiet. High speed is way too loud. There are only three humidity settings (low, medium, high). The low setting is well below 40% RH and just too low. The medium seems to maintain 45-50% and is a tiny bit high. I have not tried high. I wish it had a continuously variable knob so you could dial in a more precise humidity. By the way, I'm confirming the RH readings with a PsychroDyne with NIST-traceable thermometers - should be very accurate. I also have very hard water (which is softened) and there were noticeable mineral deposits on the filter after only a few days. I'm hoping a filter lasts a whole heating season (~Dec-Mar) when I need the humidifier.

Good looking, well designed, functional
I purchased this product (at full price) about a month ago, and I'm very happy with this humidifier.I was looking for a product that both looked good and functioned well. I was leaning towards the Stradler Form Oskar humidifier ($139), which is beautifully designed but has received poor reviews for function. I didn't want to spend $139 for a beautiful but ineffective humidifier.Looking for something that was both decent looking and well reviewed, I found this Aircare humidifier. Its a good looking product. Not as beautiful as the Oskar, but it looks nice in our house (I have it in black). And as a humidifier, this a great product! It has a 2 gallon tank. The design is such that you don't have to remove the tank to fill it. There is an opening in the top that you pour the water into. So I have a watering can, and I go around once a day and fill up each of the humidifiers (we have 2 of these). So much easier than having to take out a tank and bring it to the sink. The medium setting is a quiet hum. The low setting is silent. So I run them a medium during the day, and silent at night when we are sleeping. At these rates, each humidifier puts out about 1.5 gallons of moisture a day. The high setting is loud, so I only use that we we're out of the house.I highly recommend! A good looking humidifier that functions well and is easy to use.ONE WORD OF CAUTION - if you are purchasing this to use in your bedroom, be aware that the blue on/fan lights are *bright*!! The model with the lights is in my home office. For our bedroom, I bought the manual version of this humidifier, which is operated with knobs.
