Critics are calling Arrival “the best film of the year”. When mysterious spacecraft touch down across the globe, an elite team — led by expert translator Louise Banks (Amy Adams) — races against time to decipher their intent. As tensions mount between fearful governments, Banks discovers the aliens’ true purpose and, to avert global war, takes a chance that could threaten her life and quite possibly humanity. Jeremy Renner and Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker co-star in this mesmerizing masterpiece with “a mind-blowing ending” that “you will want to see again and again”.- Christopher Orr, the Atlantic - Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, the Last King of Scotland - Brian Truitt, USA Today - Brian Formo, Collider

The Rebirth of Genuine Sci-Fi!!!
IMPORTANT UPDATE: *****************************************************************I just spoke to Sony DADC Designated contact for India - Mr. Rajat Kakar on +91 22 7111 6222. (Email: [email protected]) . I told him about the Menu and other issues - and asked him to check this site for confirmation of the problem on all the sold blu-ray copies of this movie. He has assured me that he will do what is necessary to rectify this issue and get replacements. You may also speak with him if need be.*****************************************************************************************************tBrilliant movie. A true representative of the Sci-Fi generation that is lost on Hollywood or any other wood which produce inane space or monster operas in the name of Sci-Fi. Must own. Must watch perhaps multiple times to get the true meanings.Blu-ray has a strange issue. On my Sony-BDP-S490, the menu bar Cannot be closed - while it can be on the LG-BX580 blu-ray player. The other issue (perhaps a nit-pick) is that the original Bly-ray has a 7.1 DTS Master HD soundtrack but this one only has a 5.1 soundtrack.

Good film BUT DVD "cuts" off the picture on Left & Right sides
The film is awesome. The DVD, however, crops the video from Left and Right sides, presenting it at 1.78:1 instead of the cinemascope 2.35:1 ratio presented in theatres. So you don't get to see the full picture.

I liked it, although I didn't completely understand it
About the Blu-ray: My copy plays perfect. I have a Blu-ray optical drive and PowerDVD 14 installed in a Windows 10 desktop. I don't get the menu 'error' mentioned here by most of the customers. Maybe it is because I am playing it on a computer rather than through a Blu-ray player for TV.The menu can be controlled using the keyboard keys in PowerDVD.The screen selection breaks the movie into 16 parts.I haven't watched the extras yet. But I have skimmed through them and they look interesting.About the movie: I liked it, although I didn't completely understand it. It is a science fiction drama/mystery. It is slow but not too slow, and got my interest from the very beginning. I will watch it again with someone to understand it. And maybe those extras I skipped hold some information as well.

poor quality DVD...
poor quality DVD. it seems the dvd is not from the original source and it has been converted in india by inexperienced technicians...about the audio, you have to keep remote control all the time to increase and decrease the volume as dialogue are heard in very low and the sound effects are in very high...and the pathetic part is the video...the movement of the picture ie. video/movie goes on with jerkings...really disappointed for the bad conversion of DVD for such a good sci-fi movie...so buy at your own risk....anyhow it is an ALL REGION DVD and there aren't any special features not even theatrical trailer...only movie with english subtitles with an unimpressive menu...the menu itself shows that the dvd is mastered in india by our great indian technicians which disappoints the viewers....

The best movie ever in this genre
using this product to tell stories in my management classes - about how language shapes reality. An extremely subtle and authentic movie about the limitations of language and possibilities of going beyond them..the aliens who made this possible are the most believable aliens I have ever seen in a scifi movie
