Can the connectors be soldered for a better connection vice the crimping?

As a retired electrical engineer for stranded wiring of this gauge properly crimped splices are better than solder. For solid couch or wire soldering is more desirable. I could only recommend using this kit with stranded conductors secured by using a proper crimp tool.

Can this safely be used for a pool light?

I used it for a 120 volt moter and 12 volt light splices on a fountain pump where the splices are always submerged in a lake and have had no problems.

Can this be used to repair a buried 120v line (12 or 14 ga)? A trencher cut the line to my gate.

Yes it is great for any buried line and it is water proof

Has anyone used a hair dryer to shrink these tubes? I don't have a heat gun, not sure I want to use a lighter (lacks direction control).

A hair dryer does not have enough heat to safely seal the joint. A propane igniter may be carefully used. Harbor Freight has a heat gun that works well for about 16.00.
