For my daughter
I'm hoping this book will help explain nonbinary people to her. She's having trouble understanding them.

Buy this in bulk
Honestly I am about to order 5 or 8 more so I can have them handy to give to people who ask me to explain my name tag at work. A dear friend recommended I buy this book when I explained that my coworkers are not doing too well gendering me correctly, and I was feeling frustrated with constantly correcting everyone. My friend said to buy this and just leave it on random desks at work and I did and BAM two weeks later all my coworkers are making a good effort of gendering me correctly and also correcting themselves, each other, and even patrons when a mistake is made!! I work at a public institution so I get a lot of patrons who ask what they/them means on my nametag, and I definitely want to be able to just give them a copy of this book! Highly recommend!

quick, easy, and REAL
This is a wonderful, simple presentation of something that many of us are learning, wanting, trying, or resisting to do. The reality is that the use of these pronouns in this way is becoming regular speech. This book frames the impact of doing and not doing it in a way that I think can reach most everyone…. “When your friend Robert asks that you call them Bob, you don’t think twice about it.”

Excellent guide for gender neutral pronouns
Before I share my praise for the book, I want to comment on the previous negative reviews. The book is not "with us or against us" whatsoever. The author talks about how their parents refuse to use gender neutral pronouns and have only used gender neutral pronouns *one time* and how they accept them and love them anyway. A direct quote from the book "...we need to give them time and trust. This isn't something people get overnight, it can take years. And even then sometimes we have to meet in the middle." And yes, there is a joke in the beginning that if someone is being a jerk, just throw this book at them. It's obviously a joke, but if you are feeling sensitive about being resistant to someone's gender identity you could feel defensive reading that. OK. But that's not the tone of the book. For people who have a non-binary family member, co-worker or a young person in your life who does not identify with the gender binary, this book is a really great primer. It walks through the perspective of gender identity from a non-binary point of view and a cis-gendered point of view. It gives a look at how it feels to be mis-gendered. And how to work through relationships with people you love who are resistant to your gender identity in a loving way. The author models a generous response to people who disagree with them. It's refreshing and beautiful.

Be A Better Human - Read this book
Thank you for writing this clear, easy to read and understand book. I've met many non-binary individuals and am familiar with these pronouns, but to be honest, didn't really understand why its important to use them. Luckily, someone recommended this little book to help educate our family better. Even if you don't yet know someone who is non-binary or transgender, do yourself and you community a favor and get this book so you know how to be a decent human when you do meet that person.

Fantastic book for folks trying to learn ...
I teach courses in cultural humility and gender-expansiveness for psychotherapists and people in the dental field (odd sub-specialty, but there it is). I have a whole section of my trainings covering pronouns and respecting people's pronouns, and I refer people to this book all the time. It's so approachable and clear, and seems to be non-threatening to folks who have little or no exposure to the topic. THANK YOU for writing this!
