Memorable, unusual, laugh-out loud funny!
Since I am a mother who has twice traveled in Europe with my adult daughter l was drawn to this memoir. Reading it was like being there with them and hearing their individual thoughts as well as their conversations as they discuss their relationship and their feelings of frustration, joy and wonder. In addition to Europe they travel to far off places, such as Nepal, most of us will never see in person. I found the entire book completely captivating! The last chapters take place in Avignon, a place l would love to visit but at this point in my life never will. I am so thankful I got to see it through Claire and Mia’s eyes!

Great Idea
Love the idea that Mother and Daughter took this trip together; about 1/2 way through and enjoying the trip with them.

Thought Provoking while also whimsical
This book was recommended to me by a few ladies in the neighborhood - I probably wouldn't have picked it up, otherwise. But I'm so glad I did. I've recommended it to several others, in turn. I've underlined and highlighted the heck out of it because there are portions that are so convicting or thought provoking. It had me wrestling with my relationship with my mother as much as planning and hoping for my future and current relationship with my 8-yo daughter - and even gave me insights into adult parenting with my 20-yo son. I love the history and travel and food portions - the beautiful and whimsical descriptions of local beauty, or clothing, routines, rituals, or even sadness and hardship. The comedy found in some of their scavenger hunt adventures were also joyful. It was an all around delight, while still being deeply engaging. I definitely recommend.

I'm a mother who travels with daughter
This book was a wonderful collaboration and relates strongly to the ways my daughter and I have chosen to travel together. We have written snippetts of our journeys, but this is a wonderful capture of the kind of event that occurs with mother and daughter who deeply share their lives and are fortunate enough to move from the family tie alone and into the arena of friendship and collaboration. We started our travels with Just Us which is a story of mother-daughter travel. It inspired a month-long trip through Maine that eventually brought in my daughter's step mom for the last part of the travel. The aspect of women traveling together only grows more delightful over the years and should NEVER be underplayed in its importance in the realms of both fun and intimacy. My thanks to both authors for how well they each shared their own temperments and perspectives not only of each other, but of the areas they traveled to.

Thank you for writing this loving & insightful memoir.
I am so very thankful for Claire & Mia Fontaine's open honesty with this memoir as well as their previous one, Come Back: A Mother and Daughter's Journey to Hell and Back. Have Mother Will Travel is not only a beautiful testimony to the complex mother/daughter relationship, but it also has something to teach about being a daughter, a mother, a woman, and an advocate for women. Many of us, unfortunately, don't know all the signs about molestation--until it's too late. On a lighter note, the book has much humor throughout the heavy subjects. I especially enjoyed Claire's delightful depiction of the French. And, Mia: you are a brave young woman.

a beautiful warm story of mother-daughter relationship
this is Clalre and Mia's 2nd book. Their life story is similar to mine and my daughter's. Mia was sexually abused when she was a child. in the 1st book, her recovery and return to her mother's trust is the main topic. now, several years later, the two of them travel the world while talking about their feelings, about each other's memories of events past. My daughter currently does not speak to me. i wish that one day, her and I couild follow in the footsteps of Calire and Mia, not just geographically, but mostly from the relationship and closeness point of view.I recommend this book to all mothers and daughters whose relationships are difficult. there is hope to break those walls and get your little girl back!Vera in Florida

Like chocolate without the calories
This book was delicious -- it carried me away to a world rich with sensibilities I rarely make time for, a realm of sensation, emotion and humor that is nourishing to my heart, mind and soul. I kept asking myself, why, why don't I come more often to this place in myself, for the sheer pleasure of it? Claire paints with words, and whole interior cities are discovered. Mia corners the truth with a stroke of her intuitive wand, and voila! Clarity! Not to mention they're both hilarious in their own way! Life-affirming for any mother or daughter, yes, but for me the book was a gateway to a richer life. I didn't want it to end, and realized it didn't have to!
