My Printing Book - Grade 1

We love HWT. :)
As a mom homeschooling 3 of my 5 kids, we've used a lot of Handwriting Without Tears over the years! This curriculum has greatly improved my kids handwriting, and it even makes writing a little more enjoyable for the younger kids ("slide down and BUMP the bottom!" sound effects help). My older two kids took their time making their way through the HWT printing books, but my 6 year old is really loving her writing work, so we are getting her the next printing books only 3 months after she started the orange printing book!Next time I am at a homeschool convention, I think I'll stock up on these. I feel like it's $6-7 more to buy these online than it is to buy them in the booth. I wince every time I order online.

I think the key to helping him enjoy it was doing a very little at a time
My son actually likes doing his penmanship practice :) He didn't at first, but he does now... He is 6 and doing first grade. I think the key to helping him enjoy it was doing a very little at a time. We do anywhere from 1-3 pages, depending on how much writing is on the page. This book does a very quick (3 page) review of capital letters, and then does in depth practice of each of the lower case letters, and the numbers. If you want a book that does more practice on upper case, you'll want the orange book. It's called "Letters and Numbers for Me." This one has Upper Case, Lower Case, and numbers, all in depth.

Great tool for children with fine motor delays or handwriting difficulties
My 5 y/o daughter's occupational therapist is using this series (in conjunction with First Strokes techniques) to teach my child to write. I bought a duplicate set for additional practice at home. My daughter really benefits from having a defined writing area (grey box) and a starting dot to know where to begin each letter.I wish there were more spaces for practicing, either two pages per letter or some additional blank worksheets in the back that I could copy and use repeatedly. Those who are already struggling with fine motor skills and letter forming really need to practice more than 10-12 times to get it right.I would recommend to a friend.

Son Improved Writing
My son is in the 1st grade. He knows his letters very well but with this book he really improved his writing! It's a simple book. Not too many distractions which I (and son) like. If your child knows his letters very well but tends to write his letters in different sizes, "My Printing Book" will help a lot. It's self taught. My child was able to read or look at the arrows and understand the directions on his own. It's a very impressive book despite looking so plain. I originally bought the "Cursive" for my 8 year old son. He learned it on his own as well and his handwriting was excellent. So when my youngest son began writing, Handwriting Without Tears was the first product I thought of. I love their products...

Handwriting without Tears Printing Book
This is a great curriculum, with good methods. I would have chosen this for my kids, except I am unimpressed with the form of the letters. Some of the letters do not have nice round curves, but rather half moons. An example is the letter 'C'. When you look through the pages in the printing book, you'll notice that they teach from one corner to another in a square, which does not make a nice curved letter. I prefer my children to learn good form to improve on, so they have good, clear penmanship.

great for 6 year old boy!
my 6 year old boy loves this book so far. I let him listen to songs on Alexa while he works on printing.

Worth buying!
I have yet to use this with my son. I was not disappointed when I received it in the mail. It looks so fun! And it was a lot thicker than your average workbook, so it was worth the money!

Love for working on writing
My good friend and OT recommended this book for my child to learn how to write. It doesn't come with directions on how to teach forming the letters so you must by that to make this book do its magic.

For my child, the space between the lines were a bit big. I see in the next books the spaces are more reasonable
