Easy to read well explained
I ordered this book for a class to become a Clinical Master Herbalist. Out of all the books I’ve read so far this one is the most explanatory. She doesn’t assume you know what all the words mean. Which is great because i don’t know what they all mean. Other books seem to think you already know what they are talking about. By far my favorite book so far. Well written, lots of good usable, easy to understand information! Love it!

Extensively researched herbal knowledge in understandable terms with practical applications.
I really liked how this book is organized by body systems. Each system (cardiac, respiratory..) is explained by Dr. Tilgner in very understandable terms (very important for my limited knowledge). Common issues for each system is also well explained with the added possible underlying causes & how to address those with herbs. It’s great for a novice like me but also gets into the chemistry of our bodies & how plant chemistries can address issues! There are ‘formula ideas’ sections in every body systems (yay recipes!).Plants are also covered by body system, including: constituates, dosages, uses, mechanisms of action, & contraindications. Information is extensively researched & backed by a stunning 1273 references listing those scientific studies! I’m blown away by the amount of knowledge in this book! I feel really thankful to have this for my family’s health needs. It would be a great textbook for medical providers as well. I wish my PCP had a class in this instead of just pharmaceuticals! I’ve gotten a lot of herb books, this one is in a class of its own. I’ve been using it to help my medically fragile kid & feel like I understand more than I ever have before.

Excellent in-depth herbal
Excellent foundational book set up in systems which is great for dealing with ailments. The author includes something I find most valuable - case studies. A small thing, but I also like the line drawings.I have a lot of herb books and can see that this will be a go-to for me. The author goes well beyond the traditional realm of a beginner's herbal in this book. For example, the section about the liver and it's conjugation pathways is an excellent deeper explanation of how the liver is a part of the detox system. You don't get that in your typical herbal, which is probably in part due to the author's medical background.I think this book is a great addition to a clinical herbal practice, as well as a way to deeper educate oneself in lay herbalism.

Gives the science behind how the herb works including case studies
This book is amazing. I have many herbal books and this one is one of the best. Has the science behind the herbs actions on the body. I bought this for myself as a present for passing my nurse practitioner certification. The are now herbal questions on the NP boards. Times are changing. This book deserves a space on your bookshelf.

For herbalists who want to dig deeper into the science, but still feel the plant magic
Excellent blend of clinical practice, research, and traditional herbal lore, all in a clear, systems-based format. The cases and clinical pearls throughout were especially enjoyable, and I appreciate Dr. Tilgner's approach to clinical herbalism woven into the naturopathic model of healthcare. This book is the practicing herbalist's grown-up sister companion to Herbal Medicine from the Heart of the Earth; this volume is quickly becoming a very well-loved addition to my herbal bookshelf.

My favorite herbal resource
I began by herbal medicine studies this summer and so far this book has become my favorite resource. It’s great for a reference but it’s written with compelling and recent information so I’m often tempted to read past whatever I was looking up. The dosage instructions are very specific and I learn something new every time I use it. Absolutely love!

Lots of information but written with technical medical language.
I like the way it is divided in chapters by the body systems such as digestive system. I like the references at the end of the book for more information. However the language is too technical for in depth understanding on my part such as lipophilic terpenoid quinones. I will need a medical dictionary to sort it out.

Excellent comprehensive and contemporary!
Student friendly herbalist training manual is how I would describe this gem. Offers comprehensive body systems and plant action insights with research findings, formula suggestions, making/taking and dosing guidance. Really nice user friendly layout. One of the best books for students herbalists I've seen.

Amazing 386 pages of information.
Great content and descriptions.Covers all body systems and herbs under each one. For example under nervous system first talks about nerves ,neurons, receptors, depression, synapses, sympathetic system, neurotransmitters defined/types and what each does, how it's produced, deficiencies etc. Gives you overview of the system then gets into herbs/medications to be used for that body system. Well structured book with references at the back.Herb example content: Herb>part used>taste smell>constituents>dosage>use>mechanisms of action>contradictions.

excellent book
set out more like a homeopathic repertory, will be helpful to both lay person and to the practitioner who wants a quick reference on the desk.
