Not a typical Futon
I have a bit of a tight space where I was going to put a pull out couch, but there was not enough room. I chose this because of the look and the fact that it could be turned into a full size bed within the space I had. I have had futons in the past and they were always uncomfortable and awkward. This unit came as quite a surprise. It looks great. Comfortable at a couch and a bed. Easy to convert to a bed and very solid.

Great Futon; well worth the money.
I've owned and used some of the cheaper futons in my life, and I always thought they were just that: a very cheap (and usually cheaply made) substitute for a sofa bed. This one is different. It's real furniture. Heavy wood, solid construction, and although the assembly directions may be confusing for some, if you take your time, and read the directions, you can assemble the whole thing in under two hours by yourself. Well, almost by yourself. When the time comes to mount the rack to the arms, you'll want at least one more set of hands; makes it a whole lot easier. And price wise, if you get the futon and mattress from Kodiak, you're really not spending any more than you would if you got a less expensive frame from one seller, and a mattress from another. Sure, you can piece together a cheap futon and a cheap 4" thick mattress, but you probably won't be happy. The Kodiak is solid, the mattress is 8" thick, it's comfortable to sit on, and opens fairly easily. (You do need to pull it away from the wall before opening, just so you know.) NOTE: With a name like Kodiak, you'd think it was made in the US, or perhaps Canada. It's not. It's made in Indonesia, so if that matters to you, now you know. But that doesn't detract from the quality, or the quality of the instructions or the parts. If you take your time putting it together, you'll be happy with it.

Beautiful log decor
We replaced a saggy cushioned couch for this firm futon. The innerspring mattress is comfortable and the size is better than other deeper seat futons we have had where an average height person's feet don't touch the floor.I put this together by myself but can see how a second person would have helped at the last step. I have a lot of experience with putting furniture together and have to comment that this was very well marked with color stickers on each piece to help guide. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was easy to put together as it was time consuming but I only had to loosen some screws at the end and didn't have to redo any steps. I used my own handled tools vs the one they provided & highly recommend for hand strength!I would buy again. It fits my needs well. We likely won't use it as a bed, the futon idea was to only replace the mattress when needed (hopefully many years from now!) instead of a whole couch. If you are comparing products, only consider futon mattresses with wrapped innerspring.

UPDATE: Peter's Cabin Cover on upside down!
Love this futon. It is well made, easy to put together, and looks wonderful. Our issue is that we bought the Peter's Cabin cover we now realize that the cover is on upside down. When we fold the futon up to a sitting position (with the pattern going the right way), the mattress hangs over the front by almost 3 - 4", making it very uncomfortable. Today, we tried flipping the mattress, and sure enough, when we did that, it looks and fits perfectly. Obviously with a solid cover, this would not be an issue, but because this cover has a "one way" pattern - and the mattress has a clearly defined "hinge" to where it needs to fold, this is a BIG issue. I started to unzip the cover, thinking I could just put it on the right way, but the "mattress" in not encased, but just a bunch of stuffing wrapped around foam. I am nervous now, because the futon is showing "currently unavailable" so I'm wondering how to get this resolved and have a new mattress sent.UPDATE: I emailed the company on Saturday (late afternoon - the are closed weekends), and Joe from Kodiak got back to me Monday morning. He will be sending a new mattress as soon as the "stay-in-place" order has been lifted for them FABULOUS customer service!!!

Well designed and well packed. It's nice, I like it.
When we ordered, we were advised shipping could take a month due to the pandemic, but it arrived in a couple weeks - well before the estimated date. The boxes for the frame both showed some minor damage, but the actual frame was protected by foam on all sides and none of the parts showed any damage.I found the assembly instructions very clear; Kodiak has gone to great lengths to make label all the parts and identify the mating ends and provides a step-by-step video on their website which exactly matches the written instructions in the box.The counterbore in one of the fastener holes was not quite deep enough (the bolt head was still proud by ~1/16" when installed), but a few minutes work with a narrow wood chisel corrected that.Rollers are provided to reconfigure the frame from chair to bed configurations - these work quite well are an improvement over other frames we've used; likewise the strike plate which holds the frame in the seat and lounge configurations. The frame appears quite sturdy. The mattress is a great improvement in comfort and appearance over the cotton batting mattress we'd used before. (My wife simply said "It's nice, I like it.")The mattress was made in the USA; the frame in Indonesia.

Perfect cabin/cowboy futon
Bought this for living space and for family and friends to sleep on and I’m Diggin this futon. Looks very “cabin in the woods” and fits in with my cowboy style at home.Easy to assemble if you follow the directions and separate the pieces by color codes. It makes it easier visually to wrap your head around which piece goes together next. Look me about an hour by myself to assemble, but you may need two people like the directions suggest depending on your furniture assembly skill level. The mattress is surprisingly comfortable for a futon. It’s definitely a quality mattress that sleeps well.I recommend this futon
