refurbished model did not work.
I purchased a refurbished model first. After a week of seeing "RECONNECTING TO TABLO..." with only 2 of 40+ complete recordings, I was totally irate and left a horrible review of frustration. HOWEVER, I decided to give the product a second chance and buy a NEW model. I connected it 3 hours ago and have 8 of 9 complete recordings, and 1 in progress. ( One did not record due to poor reception. ) Because it appears my issues with the first model were caused by poor refurbishing, I do not feel comfortable leaving my original review. So here is my new review.I currently have it hooked up via ethernet, which I prefer for stability, but, it requires me to hang the antenna in my living room. I have a roof-top antenna mounted that I will try to connect over the next few days. I will probably update this post, and copy it to the new purchase when I make a final decision. As of now...PRO's1) Picks up 20-40 local stations, depending on the weather and day. ( I'll probably watch <10 ).2) Seems to be recording properly.3) Can Pause, Rewind, and FF at will.4) Can record 4 shows at once.5) Connects to Roku thru Tablo app.6) Can store up to 2TB of shows.7) Can find shows to record 7 days out.8) Can record single episodes or series.9) Can record New episodes only, or all episodes10) Has separate option to avoid recording duplicate episodes.11) Will record shows from a single station or any station ( for shows that play reruns on multiple networks).12) If it misses an episode due to poor reception, it still marks the show under recordings to let you know it tried.13) The live TV guide indicates shows set to record with a orange border, and currently recording channels with a flashing red channel number.CON's1) They call it CORD CUTTING, but you still have to pay the cable company for Wifi, AND a $15/mo subscription for Tablo guide to see a 7 day list of shows instead of only 24hrs.2) The 'GUIDE' displays all shows airing within 7 days, but the 'live TV' guide, still only shows 24hrs out.3) Many Antenna stations are unreliable.4) Requires a ROKU, FireStick, etc., but only records from antenna ( as advertised ), but still disappointing.5) It doesn't tell you if you are trying to record more than 4 shows. It simply records the last 4 set. ( If you set it to record 5 shows, it will ignore the first one you set to record. )Overall, If it continues to work, it may be better than trying to rent individual DVR's from Spectrum. I envy anyone with Smart TV's and a Dish Network Hopper. Total cost of a new model is $380 ( $200 for device, $30+ for antenna, and $150 for a lifetime subscription.)

Great item
I don’t need cable anymore with this Tablo. Cable was getting too expensive so I Installed this the day I got it and it works perfect. I record all the shows onto the Tablo and watch it from all TV’s around the house. The subscription is only $5 a month and not necessary for the Tablo to function. Without a doubt, this is the best OTA Recorder available for your home. Quality is great, Installation was easy, cheaper than the Tivo I recommend this DVR!!

Works great when it works; Can be frustrating
We just cut the cable cord which was a hard decision to make. We enjoy many over the air free TV shows and have been recording off TV for over 30 years back in the day of the VCR. We love to fly past the commercials. Finding the best place to place your HD antenna is the toughest part of the set up. When OTA shows first went HD, I put up 3 antennas up attached to my TVs. None got good reception so we abandoned the effort and subscribed to cable for several years. What started as a reasonable bill climbed to $172 a month for basic TV and internet. Now we just pay $45/month for internet. The solution was combining Tableau with Roku. Roku rocks by loading Tablo and NCB and ABC networks as well as links to Amazon Prime and other free channels onto one easy to use device. We used to have a TV enabled computer hooked up to the TV to serve this role. This set up is much easier. The advantage Tableau has is that you only need one antenna that can record all the shows you want (up to 4 channels on the device we purchased). Then the Tablo device can connect to Roku devices and computers via WiFi or, better, wired ethernet to deliver the media. When it works, it is great with little or no buffering. Programming the recordings is easy. However, at other times, the devices becomes unstable with either excessive buffering or just connection issues. Right now I'm using WiFi but when my media center is complete, I'll hook the Roku Ultra directly to my server.Would I do it again? Well, I signed up for a lifetime of TV Guide so I hope it works out but it is too early to tell. When it works I'm pleased with the crisp picture and sound quality. I need to determine if the system can remain stable enough to record our favorite shows. Right now, the NBC and ABC networks allow for backup but require us to watch commercials. Cable was so much I think I'll be able to try it out for 6 months and if there is a problem, I can try something else.

Too expensive for no included harddrive
I don't see anywhere in the description that an internal hard drive is not included. How they can call this a DVR when it can't record on its own is a bit ridiculous. I also don't like the app. Not very user friendly. And the guide is awful. I could not find a listing of the shows and times. Only icons of all the shows that required you to click on to get more info. My roku/blu ray didn't have the app available either, so it would have cost even more money to buy an updated one. Just too much trouble. Decided to return it and get a cheaper DVR with HDMI to connect directly to my system. Too bad I didn't do that in the first place.

Didnt know what to expect, exceeded all expectations
I was sick of the satellite company screwing up my bill, over charging me, and having inferior equipment. I cut the cord partially because of this product.I had no idea what streaming was when I started. I actually asked a twenty something co-worker to explain it to me. He is the one who suggested this product because I wanted my antenna to go to every TV in my house. I already had a nice antenna I bought to watch local sports on TV because the picture quality was alot better than the satellite bit for years I could only watch on one TV. Not anymore, every TV in the house is now hooked up to the tablo. The unit itself is very basic. Just plug it in, download the app, and you can watch TV. I added a 4TB hard drive so I can record whatever I want and keep it for as long as I like. The process of recording is simple using the guide. The tablo actually got 25 more channels than I had before. I couldnt be happier with this product
