Souvenirs D'Un Autre Monde by ALCEST

Alcest is basically a one man band, with drummer Winterhalter on drums. Niege is the star of this show, though, and has mesmerized rock fans with four fabulous albums of beauty, the first three the more metallic, shades of black metal, and last year's superb "Shelter" ditching the screaming and black metal influences altogether for one of the year's greatest albums. "Souvenirs" is the first Alcest album, and while it has grinding guitars, the melody quotient is higher, and Niege sings throughout, his silky voice an instrument unto itself. He is also a master of melody, creating passages of timeless beauty and richness that guarantee that none of his albums need go stale. My wife and I even like the fact he sings in French, as the most melodious of languages fits the music perfectly. Indeed, one doesn't even care what the lyrics are, enjoying instead a voice as an instrument. "Souvenirs" is brilliant, and shows all the magic Niege would record in the future. I hate the term "shoegaze", and for that matter hate the over labeling all bands and artists have to endure. This is simply introspective, soulful music, heavy enough for metal fans but simultaneously beautiful for others who wouldn't ordinarily like the heavier sections. I can't wait for the follow up to "Shelter", and I'm glad CD's are in binary code because if Alcest was on vinyl, I'd wear them out in short order. For those who are sick of music that doesn't touch the listener any more, or sick of the blandness that permeates so much pop music out there, Alcest is a wonderful respite. I can't recommend "Souvenirs" or any Alcest CD highly enough.

Released in 2007, Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde (Memories of Another World) put (the one piece and originally black metal band) Alcest on the map in the metal community. Only six songs and about 41 minutes, Alcest perfected what was done on their 2005 EP, Le Secret. Achingly pretty melodies and vocals glitter the whole entire album from start to finish. Main band member, Neige, sings like a light gust of wind over the gorgeous guitar melodies. Every once in a while he'll show his teeth when the riffs get blackened. But overall, things stay fairly calm throughout. Fans who have listened to his albums from 2010 and 2012 but haven't heard this should definitely check it out since it is one of the, if not the, definitive album for this style of metal. All of the songs are standouts, especially the closing song Tir Non Og, which features quiet percussion, acoustic guitar and dreamy vocals with piano drifting in and out while towards the end a string section fades into the background.Pros- Perfect from start to finish. Great ideas never overstay their welcome or get boring. Perfectly balanced between shoegaze and great metal.Cons- None.Overall- One of the best metal (related) albums from 2007, if not the best (along with the releases by Pig Destroyer, Deathspell Omega, Dillinger Escape Plan, Caina and High on Fire).

The record sleeve of this reissue is amazing. The record sound is amazing. The record though is warped. The needle on my turntable is comparable to a skateboard at a skate park.

Even as an avid Black Metal fan, I found this record to be one of the most remarkably artistic records I've heard. The imagination and thoughtfulness behind each of the songs is something I really appreciate, and this album delivers just that. Each song is calm and serene, a very good album for any occasion.

Beautiful album. The artwork is so much more enchanting when seen vinyl-size as opposed to on a screen or CD booklet.As for the listed item itself, beware that this isn't the December 2012 print as the description states – it appears to be the May 2014 limited edition clear/transparent vinyl print (which was actually a lucky mistake).

Existe una amplia costumbre de músicos involucrados en el Black Metal, los cuales poseen cuando no es uno, varios proyectos musicales en los que se hacen cargo de toda la parte instrumental y vocal de sus discos, de manera que se convierten en el hombre tras las máquinas, el multiinstrumentista completo y único compositor como manifiestan dos de los casos más conocidos, es decir, Malefic y Wrest. O lo que es lo mismo: Xasthur y Leviathan.Y Alcest es en este caso el refugio donde el francés Neige ha hecho progresar su creatividad al margen de Forgotten Woods y Peste Noire, estos últimos uno de los nuevos grupos puntales del importante Black Metal galo. Pero este caso no trata sobre la inesperada ruptura en el recorrido musical de su creador, más bien es la rápida evolución y el deseo por abrirse disco a disco a un camino diferente, en el que sin dejar su legado, poderse expresar con un respaldo compositivo más acorde a las emociones que se desean transmitir.Algo que se explica observando la progresión de sus discos, que ha resultado la de pasar del crudo Black con pinceladas melódicas de su primera demo, para justo después y con su EP de dos temas, comenzar una apertura hacía esa melodía que en este primer larga duración acaba por apoderarse de todo el disco. No solo es el apartado instrumental el que ofrece un importante cambio, sino también en el vocal, tanto en el nuevo registro que ha ido tomando Neige, como en la inclusión de una dulce voz femenina a cargo de Audrey Sylvain en "Sur l'autre rive je t'attendrai" o el exquisito piano que encumbra un magnífico tema como es "Tir Nan Og", con el que se cierra un trabajo lleno de una fuerte melancolía y nostalgia, y que representa con un resultado exquisito, un ejercicio de belleza compositiva.Similar es lo que ocurre con Karl Sanders, cantante y guitarrista del grupo de Death Metal norteamericano Nile. Ambos han creado discos que se alejan del extremismo de sus principales formaciones aún conservando reminiscencias de ambas y dotando cada pieza de una esplendor extraordinario. Y es que entre aquel "Sauran Meditations" de Sanders y este "Souvenirs d'un autre monde" de Neige, se enlaza ese saber hacer y sensibilidad de dos grandes músicos.

Nel 2007 Alcest (o Neige o Stéphane Paut che dir si voglia) nel 2007 pubblica questo album-capolavoro, che negli anni a seguire sarà fonte di profonda ispirazione per molti altri artisti. Miscelando in modo efficace, genuino e istintivo sonorità black metal, atmosfere shoegaze e melodie di presa immediata, mette a punto un suo stile originale, inconsueto, toccante e inconfondibile, sognante, dalle tinte color pastello, diventando in breve tempo un artista di riferimento, e realizzando proprio il presente album "Souvenirs D'un Autre Mond", uno degli album più significativi della storia della musica (rock ed ampi dintorni) degli ultimi 20 anni. Assolutamente imperdibile.

Album degli Alcest Celtic Rock in francese con 6 canzoni, tutte molto belle e ben fatte con voce femminile, bello l'accompagnamento musicale si fanno ascoltare tutte perché creano un'atmosfera musicale ricercata e fantasiosa come solo chi ama la natura può comprendere.

Salut les Cybernautes,auch wenn oft viel Schrott dabei ist, so sind die Empfehlungen von Amazon manchmal gar nicht verkehrt. So wie im Falle Alcest. Ich hatte mich ein wenig in Sachen BM umgesehen und allerlei düsteres Zeug durchgehört und war auf diese Weise auf die Neufassung des Alcest-Erstlings "Le Secret" gestoßen. Schon allein die 30 Sek. Beispiele begeisterten mich derart, dass ich das Album direkt blind bestellte. Seit dem und einige Einkäufe später bin ich, und das muss ich zugeben, ein richtiger Fan dieser Combo aus dem schönen Frankreich geworden. "Souvenirs d'un autre Monde" (Erinnerungen an eine andere Welt) ist ein Album dessen Titel nicht besser passen könnte. Die Musik Alcest's ist besonders hier deutlich von Widersprüchen durchzogen, die eine absolute Spannung erzeugen: düster und trotzdem von lichtem Glanz, verträumt und fragil und trotzdem tonnenschwer und heftig-stark, depressiv und trotzdem voller Hoffnung, Holprig und doch virtuos, Monoton und Vielseitig...all diese Facetten machen den typischen Alcestsound so unglaublich eigenständig.Besonders fällt hier auf "Souvenirs.." ein leichter bis mittelschwerer Folk-einfluss auf, der sich vorallem in den Harmonien und Melodiebögen widerspiegelt und mit dem fast schon mittelalterlich angehauchten "Tir Na Nog" seinen Ohrgasmus erreicht. Akkustikgitarren, Piano und anderes "Klim-bim" unterstützt die klar Burzum-esken bassarmen E-gitarren und der fast engelsgleiche Gesang stellt dem Ganzen noch einen Kontrapunkt entgegen.Besonders schön ist die Tatsache das dieses Album verglichen mit anderen Releases von Alcest praktisch keinen Lückenfüller enthält, jeder Song ist ein echter Knaller und birgt mindestens einen Gänsehautmoment.Von meiner Position als Schlagzeuglehrer aus betrachtet muss ich natürlich gestehen das mir die Alben mit Herrn Winterhalter an den Drums doch noch besser gefallen, jedoch ist dieses Album auch rhythmisch wesentlich vielseitiger als es noch das von "Uffta-uffta-"Blastings dominierte Werk "Le Secret" war. Sicherlich ging hier ein wenig zu sehr die Black Metal-seite Alcests flöten mag der eine oder andere Fan vielleicht sagen, und sicher finden sich besonders auf "Les Voyages de L'ame" wesentlich mehr nennenswerte Screams etc, aber ich finde dennoch das diese Platte auch für Metalheads absolut geeignet ist. Von einer "Verweichlichung" wie es in der einen oder anderen Rezi zu lesen war, kann hier meiner Meinung nach nicht die Rede sein.Alcest sind jedenfalls eine der besten aktiven Bands aus Frankreich und ich hoffe das noch einige gute neue Platten oder alte Rereleases auf den Markt kommen werden!UNEINGESCHRÄNKTE KAUFEMPFEHLUNG!
