A versatile, competent and patient opponent or tutor for all abilities .
Superb in every way, piece recognition means no more pressing the pieces on the board. Set up of special positions is so simple. The built in Chess engine makes quick play for all levels of ability. Learners have many aids to help suggest moves, legal moves, and take back, while club players can choose a stronger 'bot' to Challenge. Online opponents are easily accessed, whilst the built in rechargeable battery's will store your games until reactivated. Piece recognition was once only for those with very deep pockets, now its available for everyone! Ideal for private or family use together.

Bullet chess may prove difficult Vs online but great chess board!
Does everything it says it can do really well. I'd avoid bullet chess, trying to move 2 players pieces becomes somewhat difficult

UPDATED REVIEW 19/10/2025: IT'S GOING BACK.......PRELIMINARY REVIEW (09/10/2025) : FIRST IMPRESSIONS
UPDATED REVIEW: I am returning this ChessUp 2 as the advertising for this product is inaccurate. My use case is linked to chess.com........the ChessUp2 (CU2) only allows you to 1) Play online opponents 2) Play Chess.com bots 3) Find and play a friend on chess.com. Those of you who use chess.com regularly will know that it's a very highly varied service. It has learning features, adaptive coaches, analysis, puzzles, insights, etc etc. CU2 makes this big thing in their advertising saying it integrates with chess.com. All it does is connect to the basic play services. I'm sure in the future they will introduce total integration, but how long will it take them. It reminds me of another US company based in Cupertino, California, that makes grandiose claims for its products. In the UK we have legal recourse against those who deliberately mislead consumers. As I mentioned in the video, I have replaced this with a ChessNut Go (CNG). It needs a device to connect to the internet, unlike the CU2 which you can play when there is no data connection. However, in the 21st century, much of the Western World is connected, so I don't think this is as big as an issue. Additionally, the screen on the CU2, whilst adequate, is actually a little hard to see (if you're an oldie) when the game board is replicated. The main thing, though, is that the CNG, allows everything that I pay a subscription for (watch the video and find a way to get a reduced price chess.com subscription) to work perfectly. It's a little obvious really because it's basically running the full chess.com app, whereas the little screen in the CU2 needs to run a cut down version. The CNG (ChessNut Go) which you see in the photos and video is excellent because it's light, portable and the pieces are magnetic. Interesting, despite the pieces being very light, when you are playing, they feel a nice weight. This is because of the magnetism which offers a little resistance to picking up. The CNG is the size of an 11in tablet, like an ipad Pro. The argument that you need a phone (to connect) is a little redundant since who goes anywhere without their phone? If you're a heavy phone user it won't eat up much battery since it uses low power BlueTooth. I have an old iPhone 12 (I refuse to give Apple any more money) and it uses only aroun 10% for a couple hours of play. Whichever you chose will come down to what your use case is. If you are a beginner, and/or have a family, the CU2 (ChessUp 2) is probably better. The coloured, flashing lights will encourage children to play, whereas the single green LED of the ChessNut Go will only enthrall the child already in love with chess. However, if you are a chess improver like me, or an experienced player, the choice is simple, buy the ChessNut Go (or any ChessNut set). (ChessNut do a set called the Evo, it's virtually double the price of the ChessUp 2, but it does have a 10in screen built in. If you want the best, that's what you buy!) I hope this helps make your choice easier. ==================================== PROS: 1) WELL PACKAGED 2) REASONABLE QUALITY 3) INCREDIBLE 40% OFF ON A PRIME DAY DEAL 4) CHEAPEST WAY TO BUY CHESSUP 2 IN THE UK. 5) LIGHT SYSTEM IS EXCELLENT 6) WORKS WITH CHESS.COM & LICHESS 7) PIECES FEEL WEIGHTY WHEN PLAYING = EXCELLENT (BUT LIGHT ON FIRST ACQUAINTANCE) 8) OVERALL PACKAGE IS LIGHTWEIGHT, BUT STURDY 9) BOARD DYNAMICS ARE EXCELLENT WITH SLID PIECES, KNOCKED OVER AND "WRONG WAY ROUND TAKES" ALL RECOGNISED CORRECTLY CONS: 1) BOARD IS A LITTLE PLASTICKY 2) THE FINISH ON SOME OF THE WHITE PIECES IS POOR 3) BASIC INTEGRATION WITH CHESS.COM (NO PUZZLES) LIMITED TO ONLINE PLAY AND BOTS 4) CHESSUP AP DOESN'T HAVE PUZZLES INCORPORATED 5) VIDEO LESSONS HAVE AN AMERICAN WHO MUST HAVE SWALLOWED A LOAD OF SPEED....TALKS FAR TOO FAST 6) APP IS NOT VERY INTUITIVE AND HAS NO HELP....HAVE TO GO TO THE VERY POOR CHESSUP SITE Firstly, this is a first impressions and I will update this review in a month or so's time, especially as I believe I am the first UK reviewer. So I have been hooing and haaing over whether to buy one of these ChessUp 2 (CU2) or not. I recently started playing chess again, having not played consistently since my kids in their 30s were young, so it's about 20 years or more. I was a half decent player, no great shakes, but would certainly benefit from coaching. So I have played around 20 online games or so and have an approx. 1400 ELO rating on chess.com. I just started playing on it around a month ago. The problem I have is that online chess is hard for me to get my head round. I much prefer to see the pieces on the board, and then I came across e-boards. So I started lusting after these and was considering the Chessnut Air (CN Air) or Go or Evo. However, it may be the Chinese in me, but the flashing lights on this board caught my eye. I also used some AI to help compare, but I found out today that the comparisons are not wholly accurate. My main gripe is that I thought (or AI told me) that the CU2 could integrate chess.com (C.C) puzzles. It can't, and this was one of my favourite training tools and the main reason I bought the board. The thing is, I was contemplating the CN Air or CN Go. The Go in particular looked interesting because it is portable, but still fully functioned. I was swayed by (American) AI to buy the CU2. It now turns out that the Chinese owned CN products have full integration with C.C. The second moan is that some of the white pieces look particularly poorly finished, with hairs stuck in the paint/finish. This is not acceptable. I have read that CU will replace pieces, but these chess pieces shouldn't make it into a set. Every review I have read of Chinese CN products have said they're well made, and yet there are numerous YouTube reviews complaining of faulty pieces and pieces that aren't finished to an acceptable standard. The board is a decent weight, but it feels quite cheap. It's just the colour of the white squares, and the surrounding material. They make the board look like it's from a cheap chess set. Next gripe: I tried a lesson, the content of which was very good, except the woman narrating sounded like she was high on speed. She spoke so quickly that I had to pause her so I could observe the board. NOW THE POSITIVES: The lights and the instructions are excellent though and really makes it easy to set up, especially when you realise that black pieces' squares (for lesson set ups) are lit in green and white ones in blue. If the piece is not meant to be on the board (when puzzle alternatives are set up) it will illuminate the errant piece in purple. When you first unpack the set, the pieces are in a laser cut expanded polystyrene packing. When you get them out, they don't feel very weighty, however, when using the board, they feel great. The guidance lights are faultless, they can't be fooled by knocking over, or taking pieces the wrong way round, i.e. lifting the wrong piece first or even lifting both together. The next and most overwhelmingly positive factor was the Prime Day Deal. On ChessHouse, this board is ridiculously expensive (this is a retail site in the USA). You get hit for shipping, VAT and import Duty. Even Amazon's standard price of £299 is fantastic because this is £19 cheaper than ChessUp's own site. CU charge £19 for shipping. There are loads of 10% discount codes out there on YT. Thus the total price including shipping on CU comes to £289. The issue is, Americans are not always the best of guarantors. Buying from Amazon (I know they're American!) ensures I can send this back for a full refund. Now, currently, Amazon have a discount voucher which takes the set down to £239.36 delivered. I got mine for £191.36 which is incredible and at that price, I am willing to forgive its foibles. However, I will update this review in a month's time and give the full truth. Until then the board gets 3.5 stars. PS I needed a bag to hide this from the wife. I thought it'd fit in an old 17in laptop bag, but it's too big. Then I came across a cheapish bag that had carrying handles and had hidden straps turning it into a rucksack. It's perfect since I can put the chess pieces in their protective foam and the board in this bag. It was bought from Amazon, and I used it for my drone and all its bits and bobs...it's perfect for hiding an unauthorised purchase. Therefore, my advice to you is to buy yourself a rucksack type bag rather than waste money on the official one.

Great board but let down badly by flaky software
Great board but let down badly by flaky software (despite two updates in last few weeks). the software issues are mainly related to the chess.com functionality which is probably one of the main reasons someone would buy this device

Quality (OTB) experience. Good bots and great learning tool. Why only 4 stars?
Quality build. The pieces are ultra nice. The board lights are very pleasing, and if using as a learning tool, they are very clear. The board screen is clear, easy to use, and quality touch response. This item is most definitely geared to chess.com. Lichess is slowly being integrated, you can currently link to your Lichess account and play other players, however, you can not invite or challenge friends, although I'm told this is coming soon. It's expensive, but if you want that over the board (OTB) experience with online players it's a quality product. If you're signed up with chess.com it's fully integrated and you simply switch the board on, find a friend or player and play, no need for PC, Tablet or phone etc. You can play bots and in conjunction with the Chessup app you can undertake a full book of tutorials to teach you and take your game further. Can be used as a standard 2 player board, and can be set to help one player more to even things up a little. Doesn't need WIFI all of the time, but this is easy to set up and obviously essential to sync with online play. Why only 4 stars? Lichess must be fully integrated with the same commitment as chess.com.

Bon jeu d’échec avec de bonnes fonctionnalités. Quelques pb de détection anecdotiques. franchement bien pour une personne qui est en phase d’apprentissage. Viendra ensuite la question de durabilité ;-)

Works wonderfully well. There are chess pieces to move just like on a regular chess board. One can set the game to whatever difficulty level is desired. Board lights up if a move is not allowed. My 13 year old grandson loves it. I am very pleased.
