Staying Focused In A Hyper World

Over all I am happy that I read this book
This is a good book.John Gray shared a lot of information that I was not aware of such as the harmful effects of ADHD medication on the brain, the way ADHD medication makes people more prone to be addicted to things, and the wide amount of ways ADHD shows up in peoples behaviors. He goes in to great depth about the mechanisms in the brain that cause ADHD and other symptoms to manifest. He describes what causes these brain level processes to happen and the ways to heal them. John gets very candid about his own experiences with ADHD and it really does seem through this book that he is very determined and passionate about this subject. His main goal with this book seems to be to help people. He even tells you early on in the book that if all you want to do is take action steps you can just skip to certain chapters in the book. There are a mixture of non supplement and supplement solutions to the ADHD problem in this book. Non supplement solutions include removing certain over stimulation activities such as caffine , videos games , etc. He takes the extremely unpopular position of suggesting that video games contribute to the underlying causes of ADHD. I found this interesting and would like to see more research and information about this, I would like to know if playing video games really does contribute to my ADHD like symptoms. Other non supplement approaches he recommends are hot baths. Which are awesome. Ive been doing the hot baths on and off for a while since I read this book and few things are more relaxing than following the hot bath protocol he describes in the book. I haven't been doing it as regularly as is suggested in the book though. He recommends doing the hot baths every other day for six months. I can totally see how this would be beneficial. He even claims that there was a study done where hot baths greatly helped people with autism. Another one is chiropractic and body work which is interesting and I had never heard of it being used in connection with ADHD. I haven't tried much of the bodywork stuff. but I would be interested in trying it someday. His suggestion was that bodywork can heal the head trauma that can be a cause of ADHD. And I have definitely had some head trauma. This book really made me appreciate how much ADHD can take away from your life and also made me hopeful that there are solutions. If you care about your ADHD then reading this book will make you want to make some lifestyle changes as there are lot of things that are contributing to the underlying cause of ADHD. So don't buy this if you don't want to change your diet or your lifestyle. The supplement solution he presents is pretty intense and kind of expensive depending on your budget. I haven't tried all of the supplements but I have tried a few. It does get kind of "salesmany", But the few supplements that he recommends that I have tried actually work. Grape seed extract, while not as grand as some of the advertisements made it out to be, actually does have an attention boosting effect. And lithium orotate, which is another weird supplement that Mr. Gray is a fan of, really does help me calm down and fall asleep. I bet if you went full on with the most advanced level of his supplement protocol you would probably feel really awesome. But it would probably cost you 500 dollars.Over all I am happy that I read this book. It is a unique and inspired voice in the area of ADHD and I look forward to volume two which is supposed to focus less on diet and supplements and mostly on relaxation and meditation. And the cherry on top is that this book is free if you subscribe to his newsletter on his website.

Mind opener for how to improve focus ( and cure adhd )
After hearing interview on the bulletproof podcast with the author (John gray) I decided to give this book a shot! Well worth the time invested! Not only is it an easy read it is also mind opening for a lot of opportunities to heal yourself and your loved ones with "natural" remedies. I truly appreciate that the book is written "easily" but with references in the footnotes to all claims! This means that I get a good flow when reading. I can highlight things and ponder them and if I question the statement I can go back to the book, find the reference and then figure out for myself how John has interpreted the source. I love it!One thing I dislike is that the links to products are only to johns own products, I understand this since it is his book. But I would like for instance to have an affiliate link to glutathione force for instance from bulletproof- but this might also create legal issues so might not be possible. If you are into improving performance - this is an easily digested book. Let me know if you agree./Peter L

It's a good start with Good resources and helpful information
Dr Gray has been Around The field along time, I met him at kripalu in 1999-, while I was with woody harrelson and nateshwar for dance kinetics yoga and a week of silence I didn't know who he was back then, but his vibe was impressive, caring and genuine. That's about all I remember about him. Dr. Gray has put together a nice collection of research to help in a field that many don't have answers to and we are at the mercy of the medical field. Extremely Recently my 16 year old tried suicide. He has been depressed for a very long time and no one knew about it. It was by a great and divine intervention dr gray came on c2c (which I listen to regularly,) it was a godsend to have his resources on that show during the week of my 16 year olds hospitalization. I then purchased the book upon its release and I like this book to help explain things to my 16 year old. Whilst not everything is laid out here, as this is obviously more volumes than just this small book, I look forward to trying to work with my child to do everything possible. As I don't know much abut depression, I have been getting a huge education and the more I'm open about it, the more I find that too many, WAY too many people especially young adults have this. I don't want my son on drugs for too long. But for now he needs to amp up the nutrition before a change can be made, however it's hard to decipher from this book exactly what protocol to follow here, as there can be so many things. I'm lucky he's taking his minerals and b vitamins and brain boosters at 5:30 am before school. But this is a great start down a path, if you or you or child suffers, give them or sit down with this book and start reading, and get educated. Now I see the world in a completely different scope, and I think about 80% of the population suffer from some sort of add ADHD or depression. His website mars Venus also has a lot of information on it, he also supports the nutritional balance, it is helpful to get from the site, but it's not entirely exclusive. He just put together the resources in one place so we don't have to get bound up searching which labs to buy nutritional supp from. ( I do use them myself and notice a difference, and I'm pretty balanced with my supps to begin with) he also offers personal sessions, which I'd love to help with the specifics of the medications and balance of nutrition, but after all the medical bills I'm going up against from the event, it's cost prohibitive. But I want to say Thanks Dr Gray for all your research. Four stars because there wasn't enough information in the book, I know it a ongoing piece of work for more volumes.

I was surprised that the book made no mention of ...
I was surprised that the book made no mention of supplements that he recommends highly in his YouTube videos. His current thinking seems to supercede the book.

All I can say is... Yikes!
This book was recommended to me by a friend, but one chapter in-- I could tell something was off. This book is riddled with grammatical and spelling errors. There's links pushing supplements to the author's website, and so many generalizations linking nearly every possible ailment to ADHD.I looked up the "references" to the studies cited in the book, and some were simply homemade websites with zero credibility. Then I began to question "Doctor" John Gray's credentials- and turns out they are incredibly suspect. This book is absolutely not written by a medical professional because the claims are wild, all over the place, with "miracle cures" being pushed left and right. There are some real facts thrown in to make it sound intelligent, but also a whole lot of nonsense. Any critical thinker can see right through this book for what it is- a sales pitch.

An informative read for anybody living in this busy world
Highly recommended and a joy to have a real book to read. However, in this case a computer at hand is useful to enable cross referencing the remedies which Dr. Gray suggests. They are all listed on his website. The book needs an index. It would then get 5 stars and I would then buy a second copy.
