Great for Xmas lights.
I had my roofer add this so I can anchor and out up Xmas lights. It works great!

Perfect for Repairs as opposed to only New Roof tie-off
This is what you want if you don't want to mess up your existing shingle roof. Slide this UNDER the ridge vent on the top of your roof to the other side so you can tie off on either side of your roof with cutting or crushing that ridge vent if you have one running the length of your roof. You can buy a tube of asphalt patch for the screw holes when you are done... or just leave it on (replace those screws periodically so you know they are secure still).

Necessary anchor points for pitched roofs
The good stuff: well made, good instructions, we are using a re-roofing to install these for future roof maintenance safety. The bad stuff: I ordered two single D ring anchors and two double ring over the ridge anchors. Included spiral nails were missing in one of the units - kind of hard to find at the local hardware store. Overall, an excellent roof safety device. I will not go on my roof without full body harness safety protection in place and that depends on good anchor points. A good friend will walk with a metal brace for the rest of his life after falling off a single story roof, so it can happen to anyone.

Exactly what I wanted.
I'm using these as roof anchors for a power riser. The current "anchors" appear to be a heavily rusted thick screw and washer straight through the shingles and roof with a glob of tar on top. The roof is being redone and these anchors will be the new ones. Features I like: 1) Stainless steel (mostly, the ring is zinc-coated) 2) butyl strip to seal the nail holes. 3) included stainless steel screw nails, 4) thin enough for the shingles to lie flat on top, 5) offset design for the ring attachment that allows the anchor to lie completely flat. This is the only one I found to have all these features. I would also be comfortable using this for a personal safety anchor point.

Best solution
Good solution for installing permanent roof anchors. I use these for new construction or reroofing at intervals along a ridge for future safety lines. Stainless steel, placed under cap shingles so no water intrusion, should last as long as the roof does. Should be universally used, IMO.

Superior design and safety features...
I purchased two competing brands of permanent roof anchors. The Super Anchor Safety and the Guardian Fall Protection. The Super Anchor Safety cost less than the Guardian Fall Protection but it took two weeks to get the former. Both brands ship from Washington State. The pictures of the Super Anchor Safety here on Amazon does not convey the limitations of its product. When compared to the Guardian Fall Protection it becomes obvious which one has superior design and safety features. The Super Anchor Safety only has 6 holes for fasteners while the Guardian Fall Protection has 7. Both come with 8 spiral nails. The D ring on the Super Anchor Safety is limited on how high it could rise making it difficult to latch hooks. The loop that holds the D ring on the Super Anchor Safety has a shape that is not offset to one side. This prevents the anchor from laying flat on the surface. It makes water infiltration possible since the butyl strip will not come in full contact to the surface. In the end I kept the Guardian Fall Protection roof anchor and returned the Super Anchor Safety. The slight difference in price did not make it worth to compromise safety.

Does what is says
Stainless, well made, comes with nails. You pop off the shingles and install this, then re-lay the shingle. Use a good shingle sealer/caulk. Get a good long shingle lifter--it makes the job easier and it can remove hidden nails too. Put a bit of silicon or ideally GeoCell 2300 in the nail hole as added leak protection. There is a cheaper version ($17) on Amazon but it says 7-10 weeks to ship. I just order 2 and I will update this post as to how long they actually took to arrive. We are a solar install company. We have decided to install these on all our clients homes. Update: the other anchor arrived in about 3.5 weeks

I installed mine under the shingles with only the D rings sticking out. Should be useful the next time I need to climb up on the roof.

Good stuff. Comes with attachment hardware and weather sealant strips.

Good strong anchor. Relatively easy installation. I have a cottage style roof so took a bit longer to lift the shingle cap. But the nails provided bite in very good. Would certainly buy again.
