Juno Valentine and the Magical Shoes

A book that will show your kids they can be anyone they want to be!
I’m a 21 year old with no kids and I am in love with this book! I have been carrying it around with me in my backpack on campus and making my friends read it. It is so precious and the content of the book embodies the reason why I’ve been following Eva Chen for as long as I have even before Ren was born. She is a great mother, influencer, and person. As much as I could list how great of a person she is even without knowing her in real life, I’ll just keep this review focused on the book. This is a book that I highly recommend to any parents! It tells of a character who can be anybody she wants to be and this is special to me personally because my mom always told me this growing up. I was able to feel strength however as a 21 year old reading a children’s book. I can see Ren and Tao, Eva’s adorable kids, being able to read this book as they grow up and garnering strength from it.

Great way to introduce badass women to your preschooler
This book was the perfect way to introduce some bad ass women to my 3 year old! She keeps asking about Marie Curie, Oprah, and Lady Gaga and no longer wants to be "just a princess" but a Queen like Queen Elizabeth. She also tells random people that she saw their shoes in her "magic book".As for the illustration, as much as I love how unique and colorful they were, I would have preferred the skin colors of the women to portray their race more accurately. All the women in the book pretty much have the same skin color.Other than that, the book is absolutely wonderful that we have already preordered Eva's next book " A is for Awesome".

Inspiring - Can't Stop Reading!
I pre-ordered several copies of this book to gift to my little nieces and nephews for Christmas, and they all LOVED it! A direct quote from my niece: "Whoa, that's a lot of shoes." Ok, so the 3-year-old loved the shoes. But I KNOW the inspirational message that this book carries will be one that she returns to over and over again - mostly because I'll never stop making her read it. I'm confident that my niece will grow up to be a fierce leader (she already is!), and I'm overjoyed to be able to give her and her cousins a book that will only help invigorate that future. Thank you, Eva Chen, for writing this splendid book. And thank you to my parents, who also always let me read at the dinner table!

Sweet story about a girl and her magical shoes
I love Eva Chen and I am not surprised she wrote such a cute tale about a little girl who gets to explore different personalities through fashionable shoes. I am a fan of this book and so are my girls, ages 1 and 4. The only thing I wish was different would be clearer and larger illustrations of the shoes. It was a little weird for a story to be about the shoes, but you could hardly see them on the character. I am happy with this sweet addition to our library!

Like the idea of the book...but the execution is not great
I wanted to like this book, I really did. I have been following Eva Chen for a while, love her bubbly personality, and when she announced her book I was really intrigued - loved the premise of a little girl putting herself in other people's shoes, and learning from the great women she meets.Unfortunately I found this book lacking in several areas:- As a lover of children books, I found the rhythm of this story to be choppy even though I could see Eva's bubbly personality in there. How Juno goes from one icon to the other so quickly, how little is said/shared about them. The story felt rushed in a way. As another reviewer mentioned, maybe a few pages were cut down in the editing room?- As a mother of girls, I am not sure how I feel about the message of her adventure shoes being her favorite shoes at the beginning of the story -because of what they allow her to do, go on adventures- regardless of how fancy other girls' shoes look, to those same shoes becoming "not enough" at the end of the story, and they need to be changed and in the end looking like the shoes that other girls wore at the beginning of the story. I am guessing the message that Eva Chen wanted to go for was that Juno was using her creativity to change her shoes and make them her own, but instead this part of the story left a materialistic taste in my mouth.- The illustrations definitely have their own interesting style - and while it is not my personal favorite, what really bothered me here is the fact that the skin color of a lot of the black female icons (Williams, Copeland, Oprah) looks nearly the same as the skin color of the white female icons in the book. Just a big no no for a book that wants to celebrate diversity.Overall, I found this book quite superficial unfortunately.

Beautiful Message, Fantastic Book
This book is beautiful and inspiring. I bought it for my 1 year old son, I feel it’s never to early to begin teaching him about supporting girls and also loving who he is. I also bought it for my 7 year old niece, she had to read a book in front of her entire 2nd grade class and chose Juno, so needless to say it’s a big hit in our family! Love the message it is instilling in young ones and the artwork is fantastic.

Every Child Should Meet Juno
Learned about this book because I am a huge fan on Eva. She is a supermom and overall inspiring. Got multiple books for my nieces and believe this to be an important read regardless of the gender of the child (I just happen to have nieces). A great story weaving in female role models and literally being put in their shoes. What I love most, is that while Juno is inspired by all of the amazing women, she still is her own person and her magical shoes prove that.

A Favorite in Firt Grade!
My First Graders LOVED Juno Valentine and the Magical Shoes! Ever since they got to hear this empowering and creative book, they’ve been talking about what makes their shoes magical and what role models they had as ~inspiration~ for their own magical shoes! Thank you Eva Chen! And shoutout to the illustrator Derek Disierto for creation visually stimulating and equally inspiring illustrations to match the creative storyline! (The only feedback my students had was more ’flossing’ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe in the sequel?)

Considero que la mayoría llegamos a conocer este libro a través de las redes sociales de Eva Chen. La historia comparte un buen mensaje para niñas y niños, además de ser entretenida. Es un texto breve, perfecto para quienes se inician en el idioma inglés.
