Are these seeds shipped dried or wet in water?

They come as dry seeds. You can use sanding paper to make the skin a bit thinner at the top, where it sprouts. Ours came within a few days and are now mini giant lotusses :-) all five germinated.

How do you start them out? I was thinking of using a small pot with some dirt in it plant the seed then put that small pot in a 5 gallon bucket

I started them in small jars and moved to bigger when they sprouted. I was pleased that all of them actually sprouted. I then planted them in big pots and put in my pond. The koi ate everyone of them! So bummed. They don’t bother any of the plants but did eat these. Next time I will protect with laundry baskets!! It’s a lot of work but ifvyou follow the water change and temp suggestions I had great success besides the fish. They did grow to the surface of the pond and were just starting to put out leaves when they were eaten.
